This year is shaping up to be the hottest on record. And while carbon dioxide dominates the climate conversation, another powerful pollutant, methane, requires our urgent attention. In fact, reducing methane emissions is the single most efficient way to limit warming in our lifetimes.
This means that as we curb methane emissions from the oil and gas sector, we can not forget to swiftly tackle methane emissions from landfills. At the end of the month, when world leaders meet at the COP28 climate conference, the United States can set an example by putting stronger landfill controls on the agenda to slash methane, advance our climate goals and promote healthier, safer communities.

How about finding a way to capture that methane and then sell it as natural gas? That way, it is burned, producing carbon dioxide (less potent) and water vapor (still the most prominent greenhouse gas).
How many years has methane been escaping from landfills? Yet another way to break American taxpayers.
Like there's any way to reduce these cycles that have been going on forever. Our Modern Warm Period is just yet another warm period we've experienced since mankind has had written languages to record history.
A better way is to make landfills “protest” zones to be used by the “protesters”. Make it illegal for them to “protest” anywhere else. They can suck up the methane and be less of a nuisance to those of us who just want to be left alone to live our lives.
Stop it with the ACTUAL science!!
This is so tiring. They look at one factor of a complex system and think they know something.
We used to teach systems in school.
That’s right, take that otherwise useless CH4 molecule and turn it into plant food and rainwater! How dare I???
I can’t stay in a constant state of emergency, feds, sorry.
there is no climate emergency, but thanks for playin-
Harvest it for power generation and heating. Easy and effective.
Methane is odorless and nontoxic in and of itself.
In high enough concentrations it can be suffocating. But it’s lighter than air and dissipates rapidly.
Sunlight also breaks it down rapidly in the atmosphere. It doesn’t persist like CO2 does.
Yee Gawds, just treat it as a pile of discarded/recycled car tires, set fire to it.
In both cases the resulting soot will quickly settle downwind.
Predictably, send money. Send lots of money! After all, it's an emergency....
You mean like this? This facility will ‘compost’ chicken house waste and other organics to make and CAPTURE CH4, and selling soil enhancer solids.
Methane is also produced by the oceans, marshes and swamps, termites, and volcanoes.
Landfills are a fraction of that but that doesn’t stop the climate hysterists from trying to ruin our lives by *solving* a problem that we have no control over and we don’t contribute to anyways.
Big landfill near me has stacks flaring it off every time I've been there. I kinda doubt there's enough to make it commercially viable.
That makes too much sense and doesn’t give them leverage to control us with.
Light a match!...................
And climate optimums are when mankind has flourished and progressed.
Climate optimums are good for us and the planet.
