But just because an economic system generated wealth and innovation doesn’t mean it guarantees a good society," Obama said. "Because from the outset, market-based systems have been compatible with slavery, caste systems, colonialization, war, exploration, corruption, fraud, autocracy, the poisoning of our natural environment."
As Obama listed, the audience applauded. The former president went on to credit Democratic governments for "moderating capitalism's excesses" with a "social safety net." According to him, it will take "young leaders to help us think and act anew" about "creating an economic system that supports and sustains our democratic values."
Second comment for me on the past few hours pointing out that Bathhouse Barry is suddenly speaking all over the place on multiple subjects. Something has him stepping out and fourth term is a good explanation.
“Leftists don’t like it because they can’t control it, so they try to destroy it.”
America’s termites...
(Book).
“Market based” equals individual freedom. Therefore Obama believes freedom equals slavery.
Yes!
I think you’re right.
Obamai is as gay as a 3-dollar bill.
That stupid SOB is telling us everything that insults HIM.
Be it race, be it capitalism, be it self reliance, be it “I do not want to be Black”...it all leads to a disgruntled individual who belongs in Kenya more than USA.
And I can still hear and see the cry for...”OOOOOO, Let’s elect our FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT”
I, and many others, saw the danger in that kind of thinking.
“Dumb enough to elect him — twice.”
Don’t blame the voter, blame the candidates.
Obama faced two incredibly weak Republican candidates. Neither ran an aggressive campaign. Neither articulated a compelling vision for the country. Both made fatal errors in campaigning. Neither energized the Republican voter base, much less independents.
McCain had the handicap of millions of voters who voted for Obama in order to be part of history — electing the first black president. This was an obstacle but McCain’s campaign had two self inflicted wounds. The first was choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate and then allowing his campaign staff to collude with the media in destroying her on the campaign trail. He showed poor leadership in very obviously refusing to stand with his running mate. The second self inflicted wound was suspending his campaign when the financial crisis hit and running back to Washington to help save the country. There he, as one of 100 Senators, demonstrated he had no power and no seat at the table with the real power brokers. He looked like a buffoon instead of a leader. Obama, in contrast portrayed an image of a cool steady hand. McCain self destructed.
Romney, a GOP liberal, failed to differentiate himself from Obama. He began his campaign by publicly walking away from the populist tea party movement which had delivered a House majority to the GOP in 2010. Obamacare was unpopular with the majority of voters but Romney wouldn’t strongly support repeal due to his Romneycare in Massachusetts being the model for O’care. He also would not support strong enforcement of the southern border. Finally in one of the debates when Obama and the debate moderator teamed up in an obviously contrived surprise attack, Romney crumbled on the air instead of hitting back hard. He demonstrated he is not a strong leader.
Ultimately McCain and Romney refused to attack Obama, probably fearing the media would portray them as racists. They pulled their punches and made some critical mistakes. They failed to provide a vision for America better than Obama’s. It was their job to persuade voters and they failed.
Remember the dumb voters turned out for Reagan and Trump. Reagan and Trump both articulated strong, appealing alternative visions for the country and campaigned aggressively. What vision and program did McCain and Romney offer. “I’m not Obama and I promise I’ll work hard” is not a compelling message.
Mansion(s).
It does make one wonder. At the very least, it seems to be a clarion call for Communists everywhere to rise up.
And he has not ONE drop of slave blood in him yet has the bloodline of Arab slave traders.
The sh## stain who was in control and still is comes out to speak, we need to have these pukes all arrested and jailed for treason
You’re giving him too much credit. I think he’s a large “C” Communist.
Capitalism does not use force. Slavery requires force.
Obama, unlike Biden, no longer has to pretend he is a centrist.
...as if socialism and communism aren't also compatible with all those things...
There IS no “capitalism.”
What there IS in economics are free and controlled markets.
Government control comes under labels like communism, socialism (really communism, but less stringent, like being a “little pregnant”), fascism. Government controlled markets, currencies, are ownership, taxation is enslavement (a matter of KIND not of degree - see the above on “a little pregnant”) if someone claims to OWN any portion of your labor that’s enslavement.
Free market economics, “Laissez-faire”, is what people do among themselves normally without the thug hand of government or organized crime (but I repeat myself) taking “ten percent for the big guy” who can seize property, split up families kill and/or imprison you if you don’t comply.
Karl Marx called the latter - disparagingly - “Capitalismus” and co-wrote - allegedly - a book on the fantasy that there is any better system - with the right people in control, of course.
Bathhouse Barry Soetero Obeyme thinks he’s THE ONE.
booty call!
Hey! That's Islam!
The quote says "exploration", I think Obama's interpreter meant exploitation.
