Escalation is never a good thing, way things are going right now, the world has gone insane, so lord knows how many nations Israel will be officially “at war” with shortly.

It was a moderately sarcastic statement, not a scientific one.

For one thing, the discussion is not about weapons aid. However, even with weapons included, TOTAL aid by the Euro's far exceeds total US aid to Ukraine. (Again a bit dated)

The Saudi army is pretty small I think. They spent most of the money on their air force, which I think is pretty good.

The terrain is Yemen is mountainous and not easy to fight in, and there is (or was) a civil war with the Houthis on one side.

We cut off military sales associated with that war and withdrew our air defense units. The Houthis then sent missiles into Saudi and the Gulf States.

The "Biden" regime is the gift that keeps on giving.

Ah, FR and it’s strange sometimes formatting...

Somehow “(Again a bit dated)” got split up, despite being typed in correctly (I checked back) ... (eye roll)

The fact that a Houthi rebel leader is posing as the head of the country is itself funny. If it were the country itself, it would be even funnier. Yemen declares war on Israel. The Mouse That Roared II.

Thus, the “humor” topic.

The sales cutoff seems to have been temporary. (I agree it was a poor decision, but I still question why we need to have our troops in SA unless Iran moves against them in a big way / with considerable forces.)

https://www.macrotrends.net/countries/SAU/saudi-arabia/military-spending-defense-budget

and:

https://www.defensenews.com/2022/08/02/state-department-clears-weapons-sales-to-saudi-arabia-uae/

Sales to Saudi from 2017-21 were still “brisk” per the articles @ the links. From the 2nd article, Saudi must have and have had some of their own Patriot batteries?

A much more comprehensive timeline / discussion is probably needed.

Noted on the smallish army, but, geez, the Saudi population IS over 32 billion people. And, I’d have to believe that for, say, $200k / year, trainers and “advisers” can be hired from “the West”.

A small point: Didn’t Saudi get hit with missile attacks, then we sent US’ manned air defense units, then we later withdrew them?

Note 1: I can’t get the graph to fully display. Numerous countries below the screen captured cutoff can be seen at the link:

https://www.ifw-kiel.de/topics/war-against-ukraine/ukraine-support-tracker/

They do add significantly.

Note 2: Proper comparison would be to add up all “European” rows, and then compare to the US. (Japan’s contribution is substantial, but should not be part of a “Euro’s vs. the US comparison.)

But that’s not the situation we’re dealing with here.

Fight and eradicate evil. Stand up and do what needs to be done and stop kicking the can down the road to appease everyone else.

We’ve taken care of business previously, the correct way. It’s been a long time, but it needs to happen again. Underestimate, on par, or overestimate is besides the point. The point is to fight evil, and if evil is numerous, you fight that much harder, or die trying.

Therein lies the fortitude.

Well stated. In the days of Peleliu, Saipan, Vietnam, Korea, liberal use of napalm would be the order of the day here. And I agree with your analysis about cutting it in half. They need to move slowly, methodically, minimize Israeli casualties as much as they can, and gradually reduce the perimeter they can go into. And last but not least, they need to absolutely forget about the traditional Middle Eastern solution where the enemy trapped somewhere gets a truce and passage out.
The equivalent of over 50,000 Israeli dead demands something completely different than any response in the past.

SA is one of the few countries to field F15s. They can afford them.

I think there are internal political reasons for the small army: it's top ranks must be filled by members of the extended royal family. If it's too big, it becomes a dynastic threat to whoever is king. Plus kings in Iraq, Egypt, and Libya were removed & replaced by army leaders.

I think most US troops in KSA are air defense. KSA has been rocketed or hit by drones before even when the US troops were present, but the attacks after Biden withdrew them were bigger and more serious.

The "Biden" regime insulted MBS, withdrew US forces, and limited arms sales-- all to kiss Iranian butt. Even if forces were restored the Saudis have good reason to think the US is an unreliable partner. They're now looking at Rafael purchases. Another sign they want to reduce reliance on the US.

"I still want to know how in the f*&k this attack on Oct 7th was successful under the nose of the best intel organization on earth."

As there appears to be no COVIDBOLA ready to tee up by Confucian Chinese Godless Communists, if Israel feared President Trump's deal-making capacities, and if polling showed that Biden's only possible minimal chance at staying in office was his recently self-declared "War President" status, then ... duh.

There are a myriad of stories that there was a shitton of intel and Bebe ignored them.

No less than Rep. Mike McCaul tried to tee it up and apparently was ignored.

Egypt warned Israel days before Hamas struck, US committee chairman says

House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee head Michael McCaul told reporters of the alleged warning.

"We know that Egypt has warned the Israelis three days prior that an event like this could happen," Mr McCaul told reporters following a closed-door intelligence briefing on Wednesday for lawmakers about the Middle East crisis, according to AFP news agency.

"I don't want to get too much into classified, but a warning was given," the Texas Republican added. "I think the question was at what level."

An Egyptian intelligence official told the Associated Press news agency this week that Cairo had repeatedly warned the Israelis "something big" was being planned from Gaza.

"We have warned them an explosion of the situation is coming, and very soon, and it would be big. But they underestimated such warnings," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity."

"IF Egypt jumped in, it would be against Hamas. They HATE Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood."

If Egypt flattened Gaza, it would be a good solution.

Enthusiastic supporter: the European country that stands by Israel

Time and again the Czech Republic proves that its friendship with Israel is unquestionable. Between her war at the UN, through statements about leaving following the decisions against Israel to citizens who support the fight against Hamas, to the fact that Prague is one of the safest European cities for Israelis. Right now the relationship with the country is stronger than ever

When the Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic, Jana Chernochova, saw the results of the vote in the UN General Assembly demanding a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, she called on her country to leave the organization immediately. For her, such a declaration did not include an unequivocal condemnation of the terrible massacre of Hamas, is a disgrace to the entire organization. “I am ashamed of the United Nations. In my opinion - the Czech Republic has nothing to expect from an organization that supports terrorists and does not respect the basic right to self-defense. Let’s get out,” she wrote.

While the Czech Republic was one of the 14 countries that opposed the decision, it stands out as one of Israel’s closest allies in Europe, and perhaps the world in general. Last week the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, came to Israel, and in his meeting with Netanyahu he described Hamas as a “common enemy” of Israel and Europe. He pledged to work to isolate the organization in the institutions of the European Union. In fact, the Czech Republic was the first country to send a government representative after the war began, with Foreign Minister Jan Lipevsky meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen for a visit of solidarity and support, further emphasizing the deep connection between the two countries. A connection that has continued since the first moments of Israel as a state.
