When the Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic, Jana Chernochova, saw the results of the vote in the UN General Assembly demanding a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, she called on her country to leave the organization immediately. For her, such a declaration did not include an unequivocal condemnation of the terrible massacre of Hamas, is a disgrace to the entire organization. “I am ashamed of the United Nations. In my opinion - the Czech Republic has nothing to expect from an organization that supports terrorists and does not respect the basic right to self-defense. Let’s get out,” she wrote.

While the Czech Republic was one of the 14 countries that opposed the decision, it stands out as one of Israel’s closest allies in Europe, and perhaps the world in general. Last week the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, came to Israel, and in his meeting with Netanyahu he described Hamas as a “common enemy” of Israel and Europe. He pledged to work to isolate the organization in the institutions of the European Union. In fact, the Czech Republic was the first country to send a government representative after the war began, with Foreign Minister Jan Lipevsky meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen for a visit of solidarity and support, further emphasizing the deep connection between the two countries. A connection that has continued since the first moments of Israel as a state.
