A Washington, DC, 13-year-old juvenile was shot and killed during an attempted carjacking of a federal officer in Northwest on Saturday, according to police.
The tragic incident is representative of the soaring crime in the District:
A total of 760 carjackings occurred in the first ten months of 2023, police data show.
Sixty-five percent of those arrested for carjacking are juveniles.
U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Matthew Graves, who is responsible for prosecuting those D.C. police arrests, prosecuted only 56 percent of those police arrested in 2023.
Police said Vernard Toney Jr. tried to carjack an off-duty federal security officer around 10 p.m. Saturday but was killed during the incident. The episode took place on the 600 block of D Street NW, near 7th Street, in the Penn Quarter area, NBC4 Washington reported:

Ordinarily I would agree with you, but I no longer do. Only LE is granted that kind of leniency in a shoot. Until the average citizen is granted the same sort of leniency, I am against giving it to LE.

There's a big part of the problem. The lesson they NEED to learn is "FAFO". Being "sensitive" to their "grief" insulates them from that desperately needed lesson.
Back around 1980 or so my sister knew the stuntman who did that scene. I met him and his brother a few times. They were working as shipyard welders, pretty much living on their straight-time wages and putting their overtime up their noses.
They're called "chop shops" for a reason, and they supply an underground market for used auto parts. If the car is ever found, it's as a stripped and often burnt frame.

The officer is probably a black guy, and the press will drop this in a day. It doesn't fit "The Narrative"(tm).

So true. The kid never had a chance. It’s all due to the environment in which these children are raised. No father, no discipline, no love, no borders,...no one cares. They receive no education but only indoctrination. Everything is the fault of someone else and the someone else is mainly white people. Millions of tax-payer dollars are spent to keep these people mired in the very situations that harm them the most.
My niece married a very nice young black guy she met in high-school. They have been married 12 years and have three children with another on the way. Both of them work hard, although she recently quit a very high-paying job in order to be a stay at home mother and house-wife. He is in law-enforcement and receives commendations for his work. I’ve never heard him speak in “ebonics” or act in anyway in what some people call “black culture”.
He was raised in a two-parent family in which he was expected to obey the rules, excel in school, and be respectful to others. As a parent, he coaches one son’s soccer team and the other’s baseball team. All the parents clamor to have their child on his team as he is very well respected in the community, patient with the kids, and good at coaching. He is a great husband and parent and we love having him in the family.
My nephew-in-law’s only advantage was two parents who set expectations and goals and demanded he meet them. They are not rich as his mother is a school teacher and his father a mechanic. As I said, the thug culture is all due to environment in which the children are raised and that is on the government agencies that require children to be raised in that manner.
In the old west, horse thieves were hanged. Cars are the horses of today. Just sayin.

I see. The thug made a big mistake in attempting to carjack one of the ruling class, since they are the only ones allowed to be armed in DC. If it had been a regular citizen, he’d have been arrested and likely charged with murder, along with an assortment of “crimes” associated with the 2nd amendment.
He was just turning his life around...
