McConnell, Speaker Johnson headed for shutdown clash over Ukraine
The Hill ^ | 10/30/23 | Alexander Bolton

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and newly elected Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) are headed for a showdown over emergency funding for Ukraine and funding the government beyond Thanksgiving, two tough issues that will test their ability to work together.

McConnell says he wants to keep military aid to Ukraine and Israel tied together because he views those conflicts as part of a larger global threat. He has repeatedly warned that picking a fight with Democrats that could result in a government shutdown is bad politics for the GOP.

“So they like to bundle.”

Because they can discretely add more crap we don’t need in the bill. The bigger the haystack the harder to find the needles.

This is exactly why McCarthy had to go. He would have rolled over.

Knock Gaetz, but we’d all be headed to the Gulags under Uniparty rule. Just maybe slower under McCarthy than Pelosi.

Johnson appears to be a “mild-mannered” guy, but I’m hoping looks are deceiving and he opens up with both barrels (metaphorically, of course) . . .

Sure, more national debt on heads our children and grand children. We have negative balance in US Treasury. So all foreign war spending is added straight to national debt.
US Treasury just paid out almost $900 Billion IN INTEREST TO SERVICE NATIONAL DEBT in ONE fiscal year.

Insanity has no limits.

I think we’ve sponsored enough Ukraine gunnery practice. They all should be expert marksman by now. They’ve killed more than 3 times the Russian population according to the “media” and destroyed every tank, ship, helicopter, and submarine the Russkis had. All the Russki generals have been killed four or five times.

Another important reason.

It will require the congress to actually vote for each bill separately. The antisemites will be exposed and the political class that supports DoD kick backs from the corrupt Ukrainian regime will be held to account.

True, that too.

Hey, here’s a great idea. How about first making Ukraine give an accounting of where the billions we sent them went.

The US is $33 trillion in debt......onerous debt that
future generations not yet born will be saddled with.

I’m on Johnson’s side on this. He said in an interview that he doesn’t want to tie bills together, because other people’s pork projects are clandestinely inserted and the cost therefore balloons. Seems like a good idea to me.

I hope and pray that the new Speaker stands his ground. McConnell is a democrat pretending to be a republican, and it’s about time this fight took place.
Johnson should raise the level of this debate and absolutely refuse to fund Ukraine under ANY circumstances until a forensic audit is performed about where the money we already gave Ukraine went, and is accounted for in detail.
A public hearing in the House to discuss the merits of continuing to give billions of taxpayer money to pay government pensions in a foreign country, along with the kickbacks and bribes.
Joe Biden’s involvement in Ukraine should be publicly put under the microscope to determine where all this money is going.
This is the first battle between the globalist elites in the swamp and the American people.
McConnell betrayed us in 2022 by allowing the democrats to pass an appropriations bill after the republicans won the the House. This was unprecedented, and unforgivable, a betrayal of the highest level, and illustrated just how phony Mitch’s politics really are.

“800 Stinger anti-aircraft systems”

Exporting Stingers is risky, especially given likely US funding to Israel.

If they worked well, the Russian Air Force would not be flying over Ukraine. If they don’t work against Russian warplanes, they might work well against US airliners on scheduled flights.

Russians can send weapons such as captured Stingers to Venezuela. Venezuelans can smuggle them into the USA or sell them to Mexican cartels. There are lots of anti-American leftists still left in Venezuela.

So, McConnell does not (always) refuse to fight Democrats.

Yeah but what other deal was made with Garland that we do not know of?

There's always a deal with these guys. Always.

They do not ever do anything without knowing which way their evil plans are really going.

Garland seems pretty fine doing his evil work destroying America without being on the Supreme Court.

Besides, they have enough of a hold on the Supreme Court aready that they really don't need him. How many times are we backstabbed over that court? So, we got one win. That's nothing compared to the havoc they've done to us.

Biden and the Democrats are OK with arming foreign countries but grabbing guns from Americans is an obsession w/ them. The same “Congress” that gleefully tramples 2A rights, is hell bent on supplying weapons to foreign countries.

Not content w/ the mega billions already in his pocket, Zelensky now says
he wants US tax dollars to Ukraine “according to the Israeli model”......here’s what he means:

Congressional Research Service
US Foreign aid to Israel
60 page detailed report

https://crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/RL/RL33222/44

The concerned Israeli lobby made sure Congress is required by law to ensure that U.S. military aid in the Middle East region doesn’t damage Israel’s military superiority over its neighbors. That requirement enjoys broad bipartisan support and has served as a benchmark for ensuring Israel receives robust U.S. support.

Biden keeps gaslighting Americans about the “need” for
American foreign aid tax dollars to Ukraine and Israel.
Here’s why they DONT need it:

About $113.1 billion in tax dollars were authorized in 2022 for Ukraine, according to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. Most of it–about $67.1 billion–was defense-related. The other $46 billion included:
<><>$26.9 billion for economic support;
<><>$7.9 billion for international disaster assistance;
<><>$6.6 billion in assistance for refugees;
<><>$1.5 billion for assistance for Europe, Eurasia and Central Asia;
<><>plus $3.1 billion for other non-defense spending.

US tax dollars helped Ukraine
<><>pay the salaries of 618,000 educators, 517,000 health workers, and 56,500 first responders
<><>helped sustain critical healthcare services,
<><>helped meet pension responsibilities for 9.8 million people,
<><>assisted 1.3 million internally displaced persons,
<><>provided housing assistance to 4.1 million people,
<><>provided social assistance to 240,000 low-income families
<><>helped subsidize 480,000 persons with disabilities,
<><>bought supplies for farmers,
<><>financed finding markets for small business.

Backstory: Since 1973, Israel has received more than $120 billion US tax
dollars in MILITARY assistance alone, including “three special aid” packages.
<><>billions for signing the Israel-Egypt peace treaty
<><>billions for Israel’s withdrawal from the Sinai.
<><>billions for redeployment of Israeli forces
<><>rebuilding Israeli air bases in the Negev cost $5 billion.

Besides weaponry, Israel also receives economic and humanitarian US foreign aid, which supports broad economic development and sociopolitical stability and can include non-military support related to the country’s pressing security needs.

Much military aid from US taxpayers has blanketed Israel over the years. They have more than enough resources, now, to nail Hamas and Hezbollah. Wealthy Israel has very low debt, and actually had a budget surplus this year, while the US is $33 trillion in debt, a debt which future generations are saddled with.

Iran is supplying Hezbollah with weapons, sure, but do they want to enter this war directly if they can help it? Israel knows the lay of the land there better than anyone so they must know igniting a regional war could actually threaten Israel’s very survival.

Why is McConnell cheering that on?
