House approves first government funding bill since electing new speaker (took Kevin McCarthy nine months)

ne day after electing Louisiana GOP Rep. Mike Johnson as the new Speaker of the House, the lower chamber of Congress approved the first of a series of government funding bills, advancing legislation on energy and water issues.

The chamber approved the plan in a 210-199 vote, with only Colorado GOP Rep. Ken Buck breaking Republican ranks to oppose it, according to The Hill. The bill cuts more than $5 billion in spending, though Buck had sought to keep the bill's funding at 2019 levels.

Thursday's bill would fund the Department of Energy while slashing climate and renewable energy projects and rescinding Biden administration water regulations.

Congress in late September approved a continuing resolution to avert a shutdown and fund the government for 45 days while it worked out longer-term spending plans. Then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy subsequently lost his position after months of disputes with conservative budget hawks.

Johnson hopes to advance separate funding bills for the myriad government offices rather than a single omnibus package. Thursday's measure is the latest of 12 appropriations bills that will collectively set spending levels for the upcoming year. The GOP had already passed four prior to Thursday.

President Joe Biden has vowed to veto the energy appropriations bill and the House GOP's spending targets are likely to set up tense negotiations with the Democratic-controlled Senate.

Good time for me to repeat the saying:

“They say the only sure things in life are death and taxes. Death stays pretty much the same but taxes go up whenever Congress is in session.”

The bill cuts more than $5 billion in spending

The turds in the Senate will want to "restore" $10 billion ...

Good on Rep. Johnson, though.

Five billion is spit in a bucket. We need 10% across the board for all federal agencies for five years straight, that will make a dent in the budget. NO more baseline budgeting!!!

House GOP's spending targets are likely to set up tense negotiations with the Democratic-controlled Senate.

Tense? Here's the deal. Take it or leave it.

So let the Puppet veto the bill. The shutdown will be entirely on him.

Keep sending the same bill over and over again, and let the Quisling Puppet veto it.

No peace, no surrender.

.

McCarthy didn’t want people to know what was going to pass.

They do the last minute stuff with manufactured urgency, and they never focus on what they’re spending, but rather a single mother in Utah gets her check and sales BS.

They benefited from the last minute spending boondoggles and woke funding.

I don’t know about Mike Johnson as the new Speaker of the House but things are looking favorable as libs hate him. If they still hate him in six months, I’ll be in love.

So did more in nine hours then McCarthy did in nine months.

I feel cautiously optimistic.

48 hours ago the fact that House had no Speaker was awful, horrible, chaos, and was ruining America; in short, the sky was falling. It was front page news and all over the websites run by the legacy media. Listening to them, the House was the most important branch of government.

Now? 20 hours later the Speaker stories are at the bottom of the sites behind Taylor Swift’s romances, global warming, and green energy initiatives of Biden. Mike Johnson’s accomplishments and statements will het no coverage.
I hate the establishment media and talking heads of TV.
