Here’s Why Mike Johnson Is More Dangerous Than Donald Trump
The Daily Beast via Yahoo ^ | October 26th, 2023 | David Rothkopf

The most dangerous movement in American politics today is not Trumpism. It is Christofascism. With the election of Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, the organized effort to impose the extreme religious views of a minority of Americans on the entire country, at the expense of many of our most basic freedoms, took a disturbing step forward.

Despite Speaker Johnson’s claims of being a constitutional “originalist,” via his elevation by a unanimous vote of his Republican colleagues he has moved America closer to having precisely the kind of government America’s founders most feared.

Thomas Jefferson said he viewed with “solemn reverence that act of the whole of the American people” which established “a wall of separation between church and state.” George Washington approved a treaty that explicitly stated, “The government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion.” The very First Amendment in America’s Bill of Rights states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.” The principal author of the Constitution, James Madison, in his treatise, “Memorial and Remonstrance Against Religious Assessments,” described 15 reasons why the U.S. government must avoid backing any religion.

Back in thise days, when they said religion, they mentioned denomination

Because it was a given that most accepted that the Bible and Christianity were prime authority.

(Typical leftist reading of the First Amendment. He left out the rest of the text.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.)

its early days

he was just elected

C'mon. They were after Trump the second he announced he was running in 2015. They couldn't buy Trump and that was a game changer for them. They attempted to criminally undermine and compromise his campaign before ever being elected to anything.

They bugged his hotel room during the campaign. In addition, before the election Trump had to fly into Mexico City for a visit with El Presidente in a plain wrap leased jet so Trump Force One wouldn't be shot down by the cartels.

Suggesting this guy is a bigger threat and more dangerous to the disciples of deceit in D.C., is just dumb. It's down right ludicrous.

You can have any belief system you want in Washington...as long as it’s not Christian.

No, the Supreme Court said that it did so, just as it once said that the Constitution prevented the states from outlawing abortion. The 1st Amendment is specifically addressed to Congress.

Gee whiz, and this guy only gets a “C” (74%) rating as a Conservative. Just imagine if he was Byron Donalds.

David Rothkopf should read the founding fathers’ material in context instead of just mindlessly pulling out quotes in isolation and omitting the “rest of the story.”

“Congress shall make no law”

The professor, Walter E. Williams, Jr., would say, “They should have stopped right there.”

The amendment refers to different denominations of Christianity. Direct reference would have been to the Church of England.

Exactly.

I mentioned that to a poster yesterday.

Back then they used the word ‘religion’ instead of ‘denomination’

Our Government was set up using Judea-Christian values and principles

I now live in West Virginia where nativity scenes are never vandalized. Cleveland was the complete opposite.
