BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Geico is cutting its total workforce by 6%, laying off roughly 2,000 of its employees as of Thursday, according to a letter from the auto insurance company’s CEO.

“This very difficult decision was not taken lightly. We recognize we’re saying goodbye to beloved colleagues and friends, and as a leadership team we are committed to supporting those affected in the days ahead,” CEO Todd Combs wrote in the letter, which was obtained by Nexstar’s WIVB.

Just got our renewals from Nationwide. Big increases on all 3 of auto, homeowners, and an umbrella.

Reading the new declaration pages, I noticed that they had switched deductibles to lower levels than we had in the past. Then it took me 4 calls, 4 different people, still waiting on a final bill to get the auto insurance deductibles increased again.

On the homeowners’, it had been a 4% of market value deductible, went down to $1,000 (house is probably worth about $350K or more). We decided to keep it for now, but will look into, next year, raising it to a higher level (but not the 4% of value).

The people I talked to on the phone were from the broker’s office, not Nationwide employees. Still, I was disappointed in their lack of effort to offer solutions or actually do what I requested the first time.

That okay. According to Jo Jo’s Labor boyz there are so many jobs out there that everybody can have two or three.

No surprise; their prices got very high. I was with them for over 20 years and had to quit due to high premiums.

Most of the insurance companies seem to be competing to see who can make the most moronic commercials. They’re not funny. They’re not clever. They don’t inspire confidence in the company.

I’ve got Erie for the past several years as well. I haven’t had an insurable incident, however I love their personal service and responsiveness.

More automation.

Claims are often handled with a few pictures from your phone, and the adjuster could be a thousand miles away. Billing is done automatically, payments automatically, and people just sign up on line, rather then using agents. Customer service is more AI, phone tree and offshore.

Where do you think Liberty Mutual is going with its ads hinting it means to replace Doug?

We just got a bill for our new rate with Progressive. $600 more a year. No tickets, not accidents, and we are in our 60s.

Looking for other but they are all pretty high now. Maybe we are paying for weather and fire events around America, and all the vehicle breakins in KKKalifornia.

Hiking insurance rates is yet another way to make personal transportation too expensive for the common man.

Well the results for us is to lower our coverage and go with someone else, and if enough do it, Progressive will have to lay off Flo.

Good luck finding a non-woke insurance company.

I have had GEICO for several years and I notice that even if you have no accidents they still raise your rate 10 to 20 percent every year.

They tried increasing my premium by 50%. Dropped them after 25 years. Never made one claim.

My business insurance and car insurance has gone up a lot in the last two years. Perhaps Biden - but my insurance agent (since 1996) said that it is also “claim inflation”. Over the course of his previous 30 years of work he said he had had something like 6 claims over $1 million. Deaths of high-income earners.

He said in the last few years $1 million claims have included a businessman that had both legs broken in a car wreck. He healed up but the pain limited his ability on sales calls or whatever! And other similar injuries.

My business insurance doubled. He shopped all over for the best rates too. Perhaps obamacare didn’t kill off enough small businesses, so now they are using liability insurance to put us out of business.

That’s weird. I would have guessed they’d lay off 15 percent.

First of all, I’m not 100% in love with your tone right now.

Shedding long-standing customers too:

I was sent an email from their “policy retention team” that was so ridiculous I thought was junk spam but turned out to be true.

They sent me a GOOGLE EARTH satellite photo of my house (yes, from a satellite) and from that said my roof was “inspected” (using only that satellite photo) and had to be replace or the policy was to be cancelled in 2 months.

After calling and talking to a live person they said, “yup, yup, yup it’s the final determination.”

I instantly closed all accounts and with my 743 financial rating was picked up immediately by by another company.

Eff you Geico.
