New York Times: Jim Jordan Activates Right-Wing Campaign in Push to Win Speakership
NYT ^ | Oct 16 | Karoun Demirjian

WASHINGTON — Representative Jim Jordan and his allies have begun a right-wing pressure campaign against Republicans opposed to electing him speaker, working to unleash the rage of the party’s base voters against any lawmaker standing in the way of his election.

Even after Mr. Jordan, the hard-right Ohio Republican, won his party’s nomination for the post on Friday, he remained far short of the 217 votes he needed to win the gavel, with scores of his colleagues refusing to back him.

In efforts to close the gap, lawmakers and activists close to him have taken to social media and the airwaves to blast the Republicans they believe are blocking his path to victory and encourage voters to browbeat them into supporting Mr. Jordan.

It is an extraordinary instance of Republican-on-Republican fighting that underscores the divisions that have wrought chaos inside the party, paralyzing the House of Representatives in the process. Several of Mr. Jordan’s supporters have posted the phone numbers of mainstream G.O.P. lawmakers they count as holdouts, encouraging followers to flood the Capitol switchboard with calls demanding they back Mr. Jordan — or face the wrath of conservative voters as they gear up for primary season.

This country needs more right wing campaigns and less New York Times. The Times will get us all killed.

Well, it was the right time to activate ‘Rightwing” support, since the country is supporting Israel, 2 to one and the Democrats are marching in the streets for Hamas.

Is this strategy any different than any other where two members of the same party are vying for the same office?

The pricks from the nyslimes are now so concerned about the paralyzing of the House?

Nope, they hate and fear Jim Jordan.

He is their worst nightmare.

I will never support another republican other than President Trump.

I've changed how I vote. If there is not a candidate in the race that has earned my vote, I leave it blank. Voting for RINO's is voting for more debt and more war.

An objective newspaper might use the headline: “Jordan launches campaign to gain backing of remaining GOP holdouts”

Somehow the persuasion and arm twisting that every House Speaker nominee from every party has used for 200+ years becomes dark and sinister when it’s done by a conservative.

I take that back. Most speaker candidates have made backroom deals and spending promises to buy votes. Jordan apparently is appealing to the holdouts to actually vote the way their constituents would want them too.

I would have been fine with Scalise, but Jordan is now the choice. All of those ‘moderates’ who for weeks and months have been complaining about a fractious caucus are now the source of friction.

Agree with you there on the commie NYT, it’s no longer news.

A better headline:

“Patriot Jim Jordan Fights for the Speakership and the Future of America”

People seem to forget about all those Democrats that ‘switched’ parties over the past thirty or forty years...there were quite a few of them.

Representative Jim Jordan and his allies have begun a right-wing pressure campaign against Republicans opposed to electing him speaker, working to unleash the rage of the party’s base voters against any lawmaker standing in the way of his election.

The NY Times treats this like its some great affront to the process.

If Nancy Pelosi did the same thing, they would talk about how saavy and effective she is.

So does anyone know who these holdouts are? And what about whomever they’re going to shove in there tomorrow to run against Jordan, at the last minute?

“after Mr. Jordan, the hard-right Ohio Republican“

NYT sets the bar.

I just Googled the HOUSE INFO.

IT CLEARLY says 435 members-—218 needed for a MAJORITY.

WHY is everyone talking about 217 votes needed???

OR is that 217 votes PLUS JORDAN’S VOTE???

Because there are:

221 Republicans
212 Democrats
002 Vacancies

Which is why the. 217 is mentioned as the majority.
