New York Times: Jim Jordan Activates Right-Wing Campaign in Push to Win Speakership
NYT ^ | Oct 16 | Karoun Demirjian

Posted on 10/16/2023 2:08:25 AM PDT by RandFan

WASHINGTON — Representative Jim Jordan and his allies have begun a right-wing pressure campaign against Republicans opposed to electing him speaker, working to unleash the rage of the party’s base voters against any lawmaker standing in the way of his election.

Even after Mr. Jordan, the hard-right Ohio Republican, won his party’s nomination for the post on Friday, he remained far short of the 217 votes he needed to win the gavel, with scores of his colleagues refusing to back him.

In efforts to close the gap, lawmakers and activists close to him have taken to social media and the airwaves to blast the Republicans they believe are blocking his path to victory and encourage voters to browbeat them into supporting Mr. Jordan.

It is an extraordinary instance of Republican-on-Republican fighting that underscores the divisions that have wrought chaos inside the party, paralyzing the House of Representatives in the process. Several of Mr. Jordan’s supporters have posted the phone numbers of mainstream G.O.P. lawmakers they count as holdouts, encouraging followers to flood the Capitol switchboard with calls demanding they back Mr. Jordan — or face the wrath of conservative voters as they gear up for primary season.

Good morning Freepers...

The disdain from this newspaper is disgraceful. How about congratulating Jim Jordan on what he's about to (possibly) achieve?

That's how I view things anyway. The NYT are just doom and gloom partisans.

If somehow a democrat gets elected, I will never support another republican other than President Trump.

Those republican representatives not voting for Jordan (my congressman and one of the good ones) like our current miserable situation. Whether or not Jimmy is able to slam on the brakes on this highway to hell is another question. Waiting for OSU wrestler sexual abuse story to rear its ugly head.

Other than electing Trump, nothing would be more of a game changer. A Jordan speakership would be the first step of the long journey back for America.

Well, they might just be Pubbies from purple districts (18 are from districts that went for Biden in 2020) so how can you expect them to vote ultra-conservative?

Gee, I guess they would never mention an “Islamo Communist campaign” for AOC or Omar or Tlaib.

A public and recorded vote must be made for Jordan as Speaker.
Any RINO who votes against him MUST BE RUN OUT OF OFFICE!
No more business as usual.

I don’t see how their constituents can expect anything different. Their congressman is Republican and the vote is for speaker of the House after all. Jim Jordan is a good man. No reason for them to vote against him.

Has the NYT ever described any Congressional Democrat as “hard left”?

Republicans, each of you are getting a slip of paper.

Write your name and your underlined Republican choice on it.

Drop it in this box.

I will now close my eyes and stick my hand in.

As always, conservatives will vote for a moderate or liberal Republican, but a moderate or liberal Republican will rarely vote for a conservative.

Because conservatives are mostly Republican and moderate-liberals are mostly Democrat.

“...purple districts (18 are from districts that went for Biden in 2020) so how can you expect them to vote ultra-conservative?”

NYT would agree with you that Jordan is defined as an “ultra conservative” - that is any GOP member who consistently stands up to the lying demonkkraps.

Now back to your question. The answer is ... I expect these purple RINOs to vote for Jordan just like the purple RINOs expected representatives from very anti-RINO, conservative districts vote for McCarthy. Look at it this way. They got their quarterback McCarthy in the game for the more than the first half, and now they need to stop playing games, support the party and support their GOP colleagues with the new quarterback in the second half. Time out is over now.

Or will the purple Rinos going to act in the manner that they accused the conservative members of doing as despicable, etc etc?

The headline should read “A Hard Left newspaper New York Times headline reads: Jim Jordan Activates Right-Wing Campaign in Push to Win Speakership”
