Seventh Day Adventists are not Jewish but they do not accept moving the Sabbath to the day of Christ’s resurrection as does all the rest of Christianity.
I had a change of heart to recognize Shabbat at its proper time after employed by company for 7 years. I made requests to have the sundown Friday off when feasible. It was accommodated when possible. As I continued to gain promotions I took my responsibility to the people that reported to me as a support whenever they need it regardless of the day. Also, understood that I am free to obtain employment elsewhere if I want that time off. Bottom line; I do my job well and my superiors recognize my desire to have Shabbat off - at the same time not shirking responsibilities with a 24/7 operation. I have been blessed that those I work with take my observance seriously and has made speaking in Truth and Spirit an open and honest experience with others.
What do Jews have to do with SDA?
And, do you consider Ethiopians ‘Black’? There are lots of Jews in Ethiopia, they’ve been there for centuries.
Seventh Day Adventists.
I remember seeing a big demonstration on TV years ago, I think it was one of the Tea Party events in DC.
There was an older, mature Black man who somehow identified himself as a Christian. I don’t know if he carried a sign, or gave a talk, or what.
A young adolescent-looking smartass walked up to him and said that the man was of African descent, and he shouldn’t be a Christian. Kid said the older man should be a Muslim. “That should be your religion”.
I thought I’d never seen anything so insulting and ignorant.
Would those SDA folks be OK if nobody answered their 911 calls on the Sabbath?
Ahhh! You are correct. Forgot about him! Thanks!
Sorry, I did not read the article per FR rules.
I don’t know the details about 7th day whatevers nor any other religious group that comes up with super twisted rules.
If you want to attack me about that, go ahead. I’m not playing. Not interested.
Although it is kinda fun watching some posters get angry and attack. It’s in their blood.
My only point is that the dame should get a job that agrees with her schedule. I don’t see why an employer has to. He’s the boss, the one who gives a paycheck. Enough with these spoiled employees.
Yes you are wrong. NYPD has about 30K peace officers. They make "reasonable" accommodations" for all types of religions.
Excellent point!
I think everyone on this thread has missed the point.
The Seventh Dat Adventists are a Christian denomination, not a Jewish one. So they celebrate the Christian Sabbath on Saturday not Sunday.
It has nothing to do with Judaism.
It is a legitimate denomination that has been around for more than a century.
They are claiming she was not only NOT a Seventh Day Adventist but that no such organization exists.
Then they claim she is pretending to be Jewish when she is not.
And finally that no black person can be Jewish not a Seventh Day Adventist.
There is gross ignorance on the part of those calling her a scammer.
They could have easily verified it by calling her church,

I would think that whether or not your employer has other options to staff the organization on the Sabbath has nothing to do with whether or not the work is “extraordinary.”
The claim regarding the supervisor came from the plaintiff.
I haven’t ‘attacked’ you. But if you’re going to engage, it’s a good idea to know something about what you’re talking about.
(And what’s ‘super twisted’ about considering Saturday to be the Sabbath? I think Jesus did...)
“Am I wrong in thinking that law enforcement would be considered “extraordinary work?””
Generally, yes.
“Would those SDA folks be OK if nobody answered their 911 calls on the Sabbath?”
No, but would that happen because one SDA member was allowed to worship on the Sabbath? We’re talking about one woman, not the whole police force.
I lived for a while in Takoma Park, MD, where their church headquarters are. They are interesting people, and I recall a lot of people from India.
They have their University there, and their hospital used to be there, but now has locations further into Montgomery County. In my experience and that of my family, their hospitals are excellent.
