If it were up to me, I might be inclined to write off many of the hostages with U.S. citizenship. But it doesn’t work that way, and even here on FR I’ve seen a complete logical contradiction in some of the posts on this topic.

1. “Israel should bulldoze Gaza into the sea and/or turn it into glass.”

2. “This is a matter of national interest for the U.S. because Hamas has prisoners who are U.S. citizens.”

You can’t have it both ways. Either Israel ignores the concerns of other governments about their own citizens and destroys Gaza, or it makes its own actions subject to the oversight of those governments.
