Amid mounting questions about Israel’s failure to anticipate the unprecedented attack by Hamas, an Egyptian intelligence official said his country had warned the Jewish state repeatedly about “something big” happening shortly.
The official said Israeli officials had been focused on their struggles in the West Bank and played down the threat from the militant group in Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is made up of supporters of West Bank settlers who have demanded a crackdown in the face of a rising tide of violence in the area over the last 18 months.
“We have warned them an explosion of the situation is coming, and very soon, and it would be big. But they underestimated such warnings,” the Egyptian official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the Associated Press.

Bomb them too
Somebody let it happen to take Bibi down.
Is Netanyahu Israel’s version of Biden? He has sure failed.
Who? Egypt? They’ve actually been one of the more rational players in this game recently.
Two days ago I read a tweet quoting somebody in the Defense Department, who said either in an interview or at a press conference, that the US had noticed unusual movements too and had reported it to Israeli intelligence. And nothing happened.
Personally, I think the Israelis have a problem on the inside. There’s no way they could have “missed” this. Egypt warned them and so did we.
Bibi may be poorly served by some of his government officials that he depends upon but he is not Mitt Romney in a yarmulke.
I thought Israel really used that 10th man method in assessing threats and preparing for them. The one where if nine of your advisors think in one mind, it is the duty of the 10th to disagree and fully prepare for that outcome as well, implausible or unpleasant as it may be.
He is Israel’s version of Trump. They’ve done everything possible to keep him out of office and hamstrung barring that.
Bibi did work with Mitt in his youth at one of those “capital” firms.
But his lust recently is for the deal with Saudi Arabia and the money that will flow Israel’s way under that deal to develop the Palestinian state on Jewish land in Judea and Samaria (West Bank).
/bingo
Netanyahu is Israel’s version of Mitt Romney. You know, one of your heroes.
BINGO !
Bibi got “Trumped”.
Betrayed by those he thought had his back.
Donald Rumsfeld as I live and breathe...
I’m not a Netanyahu booster, and he’s a shrewd operatator, but there is no way he let this happen to his people. Almost nobody believes that.
But still - how did they plan, stage and execute something of this magnitude and not get seen? Hundreds, thousands really, had to have known.
I just don’t get it.
In 1973 prior to the Arab attack, King Hussein passed the information he had via his doctor in London, who was with Israeli intelligence. Golda and her nitwits did nothing. I don’t think this happened here, I think you’re right, there’s an anti-Bibi problem that he needs to get sorted out during the crisis, by ID’ing the culprits and sending them into combat against Hamas.
and just where do you see Romney as my hero? Have you ever seen me write that?! No. So stuff your lies and STFU.
The King of Jordan personally warned Golda Meir and Moshe Dayan about the impending 1973 war. How’d that work out?
Just as in 1941 we knew Japan would attack us somewhere.
The Israeli Knesset is loaded with anti-Zionist fellow travelers. Like the Knesset’s left-wing Hadash-Ta’al coalition. They are like New York City and Florida Jews. They hate the military but love their enemies the Palestinians.
The Israeli intel didn’t “miss” it but underestimated the scale and the risk of the attacks. Imo, intel factions inside the gov’t. allowed it to sow terror incidents to facilitate removing Netanyahu and protect the judiciary.
