On the fiftieth anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, Israelis woke up to a sustained attack on multiple southern towns near the border with the Gaza Strip (half of the so-called "Palestinian Authority"). This isn't the usual vicious but random spasm of slaughter in which Hamas likes to engage. It appears to have been very well planned and executed, with thousands upon thousands of rockets barraging Israeli residential areas from the southern border to north of Tel Aviv. It is also an invasion: Hamas used bulldozers to demolish Israeli border barriers, enabling an unknown number of its assets to enter the country - followed by reinforcements:
Reinforcements arrive for the Palestinian terror groups that have entered Israel.
They are wearing yellow "friend-or-foe" armbands to help prevent friendly fire.

That's different - as the locals quickly noticed:
We woke up at 6:30 a.m. to alarms, we thought it was the usual rocket attacks but we started hearing gunshots on the street, sounded like it came from the parking of our building. Then we realized something was unusual. We then started seeing Hamas people in pickup trucks. They knocked on the homes of residents, who thought they were Israeli soldiers. They took them hostage.
The twin prongs of the invasion were in evidence at an all-night "nature party": first the revellers came under rocket attack; then, as they fled, they came under gunfire.

Betrayed by progressives, some of the “surprise” for Israel, was probably an inside job.
Good article from Steyn.
I saw a video, wherein HAMAS took over a large Israeli military compound of several armored vehicles.
Also, another video, wherein a device was used to cleanly punch a hole thru one of the reinforced barrier walls that separate a “Palestinian” area from an Israeli area.
Israel has had to play nice guy to placate a hostile world. If they want to survive that crap has to end.
I think people get confused and assume USA, IDF, etc are juggernauts at all times and places. Leadership makes bad decisions and bad things happen as a result. COP Keating in Afganistán is a an example of total incompetence on our side with a bad ending. Surrounded by high ground on all sides in the heart of ‘Indian’ country, etc.
Don’t know enough yet to provide any thoughts what happened with Israeli bases, but I can assure you even the best militaries can make terrible tactical decisions.
There is only one way to deal with enemies such as these.
Hamas is engaging in wanton slaughter - the elderly, women, children, and even the occasional IDF soldier. They should be dealt with appropriately.
Gaza is toast. Power has been cut off to the whole area. The IDF will turn that area into rubble.
It doesn’t make sense to me how all of this occurred without warning.
The amount of rockets, logistics, and personnel...
Everybody woke up on 9/11 like it was going to be another normal day. Even after the first tower was hit, most were assuming it was an accident.
Israel was caught flat-footed and thus were put on their back heel.
Likely not for very long. The retaliation is likely to result in the most brutal warfare most of us have seen in our lifetimes. This will not be a Desert Storm turkey shoot.
Obama’s celebrating with another champagne bath with the boys, snorting some good tootskie, kneeling to Baphomet and Allah as they conspire against the Christian civilization.
I hope you’re right.
No leaks, no Mossad warning. Given the number of people involved, this is a huge intel failure.
Worse than 9/11 with respect to the sheer level of planning.
How many people do you think this involved in total?
And it’s Hamas and Israel. It’s not like the “relationship” is an unknown...
Complacency is probably right. I saw lots of dead female IDF in the videos I saw coming out of the bases, also lots of dead half dressed soldiers in kit, meaning they were caught unawares. I also saw a lot of dead IDF inside their barracks.
The nature of ground combat ops has changed dramatically since RU/Uke…. As an example, the grenade dropped from a $1,000 drone with precision is insanely effective against armor and personnel. Granted, Gaza is extremely urban, but Hamas obviously knew they’d be inviting a large IDF invasion. It’ll be interesting to see the tactical shift. It’ll be gnarly for sure.
Could be LIHOP like Pearl Harbor likely was, who knows. It seems highly unlikely with Israel’s sophisticated surveillance capabilities and deep infiltration of the Pals, that this came out of nowhere. Not sure what’s worse, LIHOP or a total intelligence failure. It’s clearly one or the other.
It’s bad no matter which. There’s no telling how this may propagate.
Bibi thought Biden was great to have stolen the election and congratulated him the very next morning for having done so. Bibi called Biden Israel best friend.
Biden, however, along with Obama, gave Iran/Hamas $6 billion and the muslims in Afghanistan another $6 billion or more in military equipment. They also gave untold aid and money all these years to various muslim groups. Valerie Jarrett was obama’s handler on behalf of Iran. She was born in Iran and an Iranian spy.
Yet, Bibi did not respect his relationship with Trump, but coddled the very man, Biden, who no doubt helped orchestrate the Hamas attack on Israel.
