Now-former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was stripped of his gavel on Tuesday afternoon via roll-call vote on Rep. Matt Gaetz's (R-FL) motion to vacate the chair, pursuant to rules agreed to by McCarthy in order to clinch victory in his drawn-out race to become speaker in January.
By a vote of 216 to 210, the historic motion prevailed as presiding Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR) declared "the resolution is adopted...the office of Speaker of the House of the United States House of Representatives is hereby declared vacant."

Haven't you ever heard about the frog and the scorpion? Anyone who says McCarthy betrayed them, is either dim or disingenuous. McCarthy was being McCarthy, just as he always has been. To expect something else was foolish.

Time for someone to step up as in “Darkest Hour.” There has to be a Churchill out there somewhere. Time for him or her to step up.

Ousting McCarthy is great. I just wish they had someone waiting in the wings to be Speaker.
I liked Tulsi Gabbard because she put a thumb in the eyes of her former colleagues in the Democrat ranks. That is all.

That is simply n0ot true. He has spent the last few weeks bashing Trump's primary opponents. And why would Trump work so hard to make McCarthy speaker, if he was against him?
I think these are House rules. I don't see it in the Constitution. As such, the House could vote to change the rules to elect Speaker using some horrific plurality nonsense.
