Baby boomers, especially younger members, comprise a growing percentage of homeless people.

Many are struggling to keep up with skyrocketing rents while pandemic aid dwindles.

A shortage of subsidized housing is compounding the problem.

While housing costs in the US continue to skyrocket and homelessness has become a crisis, no group appears to be getting hit harder than young baby boomers.

It will be like Asia, where you pay a lot of money for a space 6 feet long and 3 feet wide and 4 feet tall.

*Theoretically many of these people should have family members to take them in. But they may have burned Bridges with families due to other issues*

SSI contributed to it. Disfunctional families don’t have to get along if the government sends a check.

Both halves of the couples lose although men lose worse.

Not necessarily. My first wife and I had a mobile home. I paid her half of our equity. It increased in value significantly within the next year and I sold it for over triple what we paid for it. My second wife didn't want anything to do with the house we had just acquired, so she quit claimed it to me. Years later I cleared over $100k after selling it. Also, all my pensions are totally intact. No financial hits for me.

Living solely off Social Security means there wasn’t a plan.

Life threw enough my way so that I don't have the big 401k.

But, I earn my money with my brains and knowledge (IT), so I figured I just don't retire. Then SS just becomes a supplement when I hit 70.

No major health issues, and parents are still alive, so this doesn't work for everyone.

How are the pastors going to buy all those homes, boats, jet skis, etc.? You know, to witness to the rich?

I’m no longer working after my company was sold and I’m pretty good at living only on my SS check. But, I have dipped into my savings a few times for 100.00 there, 50.00 there. Everything in my life is paid off and I don’t go out much or purchase anything so I’m OK. My retirement funds are getting a hit, though - I have to quit checking as often as I do because I just get pissed off. If I did have a major emergency and needed a lot of money, I’d just do a reverse mortgage and they can be be paid back when I die.

Yes, there is. The Baby Boomers are a huge group. My sister born in 1963 is at the tail end, but my cousin, born in ‘46 was at the beginning. My sister is a “younger Baby Boomer.” She turns 60 this year.

Wonder how many in their 50s and financially hurting are suffering from the effects of ... divorce, illness, job ... issues. Not everybody leads a charmed life.

How much of this was created or made worse by the American elite sending 50,000 factories to China starting at the time China joined the World Trade Organization? This was after the same elite destroyed social mobility by inundating science and high tech jobs with the Immigration Act opening the doors one way to at least 65,000 H1b visas per year. Only an elite that hates its people's guts would impose such policies.

I have three questions;
How many of them voted Democrat?
Why didn’t they plan for the future?
Why the fuk do I owe them anything?

I never had a high-paying job during my working life, so my Social Security isn’t enough to support me. If it wasn’t for the retirement check I get from the State, I’d be
barely scraping by. I have to watch every penny, as my pitiful savings are nearly gone. Sigh.

About being part of a faith community - in contributing money to your church, remember to contribute also to yourself and your own future. A word to the wise.
