U.S. military officials are searching for a missing F-35 jet after a "mishap" caused its pilot to eject on Sunday afternoon.
Joint Base Charleston said on Facebook that the aircraft was a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II belonging to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. The pilot ejected safely and was transported to a local medical center.
The base is working with Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort to help locate the missing aircraft. Emergency response teams have been deployed to find the jet.

Daddy probably arranged for Hunter to have a new toy (or getaway vehicle).
Yikes!
Could a mishap be the pilot pushed the wrong button?
I guess this is one way to get them to Ukraine.
Figure out the going rate for a slightly used very hot F-35, then watch for 10% in the big guy’s bank account.
Really kinda hard to believe they don’t know where a $200,000,000 piece of military equipment is. Even harder to believe that they announced it.
“I’d start by searching in the water. Good luck.”
There’s still a nuke somewhere near Tybee Island, Savannah that the Air Force lost in 1958. :)
” Even harder to believe that they announced it.”
There is a lot more to this story than we know or will ever know.
I have that same feeling
“They said” artificial sweeteners were safe, WMDs were in Iraq and Anna Nicole married for love” ... “They said”.
Leaving it in Autopilot mode and ejecting is against SOP ( At least in my day),,,
Just think. 500-800 pounds of pilot and Ejection Seat leaves the a/c forward of the CG would cause the A/C to nose up ,possibly impacting with the ejecting pilot.
In the day SOP was full nose down trim, insuring the nose would be down and in addition making sure the plane is in a dive.
Autopilot would a sure the plane flies on till it’s out of fuel
They can track cell phones but don’t even have a LOJACK on F-35s? That is not encouraging at all...
“Figure out the going rate for a slightly used very hot F-35”
It already has a new paint job.
No. Only in the movies.
Military Times. are laughing the butts off.
The missing aircraft in the US swiftly drew online mockery, from postings with Missing-Jet fliers on lamp posts and notices on milk cartons, to mashed up Dude, Where’s My F-35 movie posters.
“Now that I got that out of the way. How in the hell do you lose an F-35?” South Carolina Republican Representative Nancy Mace said on social media. “How is there not a tracking device and we’re asking the public to what, find a jet and turn it in?”

Even radar has a hard time tracking it. Most embarrassing.
In one of the lakes, I think.
I saw something that said the F35 landed in Cuba :|
