The UAW lacked the guts to make a full fledged strike against one of the Big Three as they had earlier threatened. The UAW is making preposterous demands in the face of all three of the auto manufacturers being in peril.

A look at the stock prices makes a lie out of the UAW claims of great wealth. The Ford stock price hovering around only $12 is the certain indicator that the UAW is in existential crisis. The rticle worries about the US economy needlessly. All slack created by the Big Three will be taken up by the more competent American auto manufacturers.

Tesla stock rose back above the $275 per share price

If the rank-and-file had any sense they’d decertify their union.

Haven’t bought anything from the Big Three since the Chevy Astro van in ‘85. Before that, had a Ford, Pontiac, Plymouth and Buick.

I do learn, if slowly.

Timing wise, I hope this drives the price of used cars up as I am in the process of selling one.

So instead of targeting one company to strike, the UAW has chosen to target one plant of each company.

I presume that they've targeted the plants that make the most profitable vehicles for each company.

We'll see how this strategy works. It causes pain for the automaker, but not too much, and it limits how much the UAW has to draw down it's strike fund.

I hope to see sales of Mazda, Toyota, Hyundai etc go through the roof!!
A good AD campaign for them would be...Get your car from US..we CAN DELIVER.

In Lafayette IN, all SUBARU'S are made there.

If they were striking to stop the transition to EVs I’d be all for the strike.

an assembly plant worker makes $32.32 an hour plus benefits, which ultimately means they are making (or costing their employer) about 100 - 110K per year for at best semi-skilled labor.

They want COLA increases on top of 40% wage increases over the next 4 years?!!! Audacious isn’t the word I would use to describe the demands.

They only wanted a 40% pay increase, guaranteed jobs, full pensions, and 32 hour work weeks. I don’t see why they shouldn’t get 100% raises, double pensions, and ‘come in when you feel like it’ work weeks. Damn, just give them the whole company.

Ford stock has been hovering around 12 for the past year. They live on the F150 (ICE) sales.

It's a lot cheaper for the UAW $825 Million fund to pay strike wages for 12,600, rather than 146,000.

The initial targeted assembly disruptions are:

Ford Bronco - Detroit MI
Stellantis Jeep - Toledo OH
GM Pickups - Wentzville MO

The auto companies are most worried about disruptions to parts.

At the end of August, Stellantis had 74 days of unsold inventory, a measure of how much stock is available if their plants were immediately shut down. Ford had 64 days of supply, while GM, which had some plants down recently because of parts shortages, had 50 days of available vehicles.

You said a lot, all truths. I for one would like to see the UAW lose and lose big. Unions are unnecessary and are just a financial drain on the employees they claim to represent.

I was forced to join two unions before I started my own businesses. The money I gave to the Teamsters and the International Operating Engineers union was as beneficial as giving my 15 year old great grandson a thousand dollars, a fifth of Jack Daniels and when he was through with the bourbon pitch him the key fob for my H-D FLTRU Road Glide.

The companies should close down all of their union plants, except the ones producing electric vehicles. Show the employees what the Democrats have planned for them.
