G20 summit ends with India, Brazil and Russia boasting success
Asia Times ^

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up Sunday a G20 summit that played down deep divisions over the war in Ukraine and climate change, but gave him a moment in the diplomatic spotlight.

...

On Sunday, Modi formally closed the summit by passing on a ceremonial gavel to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, whose country will take the bloc's presidency in December.

"We cannot let geopolitical issues sequester the G20 agenda of discussions," Lula said, an implicit reference to wrangling over the Ukraine war.

"We have no interest in a divided G20. We need peace and cooperation instead of conflict."

...

But despite meeting in what the EU's climate monitor says is likely to be the hottest year in human history, the leaders failed to agree to a phase-out of fossil fuels, despite a UN report a day earlier deeming the drawdown "indispensable" to achieving net-zero emissions.

Instead, they backed a target of tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030, while committing only to a "phasedown" of coal "in line with national circumstances".

...

Modi, who painted the summit as India's diplomatic coming of age and is pushing for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, celebrated the accession of the 55-member African Union to the G20.

As the G20, the grouping included 19 countries and the European Union, representing 85 percent of the world GDP, with South Africa its only member state from the continent.

...

Like Modi, many walked barefoot at the rain-dampened site -- including British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and French President Emmanuel Macron -- while others including US President Joe Biden opted for slippers.

After a rendition of a Hindu devotional hymn, they stood for a moment's silence before leaving wreaths at the marble plinth where an eternal flame commemorates Gandhi's memory.

How do you fight such blatant falsehoods especially when everything in the media is propaganda.

GDP comparison is not correct measured in dollars. Coz $1 dollar in China or India buys lot more food or services than in USA or Europe.

Bread in US costs $2
In china it costs 25 cents
USA adds $2 to GDP
China adds $0.25
Not real comparison.

China is much bigger economy than USA measured in purchasing power.

Total GDP PPP is about $33 trillion for China and $27 trillion for the US.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)

GDP PPP / capita is $23K for China and $80K for the US.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita

China’s population is 1,425,575,521 and the US population is 340,349,234.

For China to equal the US in GDP / capita, it would need a total GDP over 4 times as large.

I was talking about total GDP if country, not GDP/person.
Having visited India many times and having lived in USA for 63 years, I can say from first hand observation, the GDP numbers are bogus.

Go to China in the countryside, not one of the major cities and make that claim - where a really good job pays $1000/month.

Their purchasing power exists only within the Chinese system.

If you’re talking about the purchasing power of the CCP, like Belt and Road, that’s an entire house of cards built on debt worse than our system.

You and I are the same age - China is where I go often, and have a large extended family there. Yes, life is much easier there for their people than it is here for us.

Yes I was talking about local purchasing power.
If you price all purchases by locals and then price the same activity in USA, their GDP numbers will be much bigger. Imported goods cost about same everywhere. A Cadillac purchased in India is not any cheaper than in USA.
