The Federal Aviation Administration said Elon Musk's SpaceX must keep its Starship Super Heavy rocket grounded.
The federal agency had been probing the April launch, which saw SpaceX's Starship explode in mid-flight.
The FAA called for SpaceX to take 63 corrective actions before it launches another Starship test flight.
The Federal Aviation Administration on Friday said Elon Musk's SpaceX must keep its Starship Super Heavy rocket grounded, saying the company needs to take 63 corrective actions before it is cleared for another test flight.
The FAA has now wrapped its probe into the April launch, which saw the rocket explode mid-flight.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk had claimed Tuesday, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) which he now owns, that "Starship is ready to launch, awaiting FAA license approval."

The outcome wasn’t a failure. It was a test flight which didn’t even plan for anything after takeoff. Then again, that might be why FAA disagrees with SpaceX about safety; they may not be so cavalier about a massive explosion.
>so the FAA knows more about Starship than SpaceX ?<
An old industry joke....not really:
An FAA fed is a disgruntled pilot who couldn’t get a real job in aviation.
EC
The “experts” are now telling SpaceX how to build a booster.
Next up, NASA is going to give guidelines for “rapid project development” along with “how to eliminate cost overruns”.
It was with approval.
But Boeing is part of the hated "military industrial complex", so verbally defecating on Boeing is OK.
SpaceX is an all-holy private company, so any government action unfavorable to it is demonic. (Never mind all the USAF/USSF and NRO launches ...)
There's a lot of hypocrisy on this forum.
>> Nope. The FAA is run by non-pilots and non-engineers. <<
Back in the day, the FAA used to be 100% former Air Force/Air Corps/Navy folk. Served your time at a Korean War radar installation? Welcome to the FAA, Joe!
>> How did FR react when the FAA grounded 737-MAX? <<
Hundreds of people died. SpaceX’s explosion was the conclusion to a successful test flight.
Government knows best and is always there to help.
True facts:
1) It shredded the launch pad. Debris from the launch pad was widely scattered.
2) Some engines failed to ignite. Others failed to operate during the flight.
3) It was terminated by the mission controllers, resulting in a huge explosion.
To suggest that it did not raise legitimate safety considerations is absurd.
Yeah, the Biden/Obama cadre has weaponized the entire gov’t.
The craft “exploded in flight” because it had to be blown up when the staging failed.
The “deep state” is coming after Musk from all sides. “
Yes they are, one thing about Biden he has always used whatever government power he has to punish and destroy anyone who gets in his way or even disagrees with him, now he has the Power of the presidency.
They’re stalling SpaceX to let nasa get caught up with Him. He’s making them look bad. Because they are...
SpaceX hasn’t killed 3 Astronauts like nasa did in Apollo 1.
I SEEM TO REMEMBER THE CHALLENGER EXPLODING
Last I heard-—Musk can launch from a large offshore drilling style platform
I seem to remember the Space Shuttle being grounded for years as a result of the Challenger explosion.
The FAA gets twitchy when your stuff blows up.
From my own personal experience with federal regulators, most of these deficiencies were identified by SpaceX personnel.
And then the FAA found a few things that may or may not be deficiencies just so they look like they are competent and to remind SpaceX who is really in charge.
“Considering the outcome of the first Super Heavy flight, and without knowing the nature of the 63 corrective actions, I recommend acquiring a little more knowledge before condeming this as mere “deep state” interference.”
Considering the actions of the governmental agencies and the left’s obvious bias and hatred of Musk, I’ll keep with my default position that any action by the governmental agencies against Musk is political. When it comes to trust, they have a long way to go to dig themselves out of the hole they have dug for themselves.
With Falcon-9/Falcon Heavy, SpaceX is running the most aggressive optempo in the history of space flight. They're on track for 100 launches this year.
What does the FAA have to say about Falcon? "Go".
