Victor Davis Hanson: What the Left Did to Our Country
American Greatness ^ | 4 Sep, 2023 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 09/04/2023 4:44:00 AM PDT by MtnClimber

Will their upheaval succeed?

In the last 20 years, the Left has boasted that it has gained control of most of America institutions of power and influence—the corporate boardroom, media, Silicon Valley, Wall Street, the administrative state, academia, foundations, social media, entertainment, professional sports, and Hollywood.

With such support, between 2009-17, Barack Obama was empowered to transform the Democratic Party from its middle-class roots and class concerns into the party of the bicoastal rich and subsidized poor—obsessions with big money, race, a new intolerant green religion, and dividing the country into a binary of oppressors and oppressed.

The Obamas entered the presidency spouting the usual leftwing boilerplate (“spread the wealth,” “just downright mean country,” “get in their face,” “first time I’ve been proud of my country”) as upper-middle-class, former community activists, hurt that their genius and talents had not yet been sufficiently monetized.

After getting elected through temporarily pivoting to racial ecumenicalism and pseudo-calls for unity, they reverted to form and governed by dividing the country. And then the two left the White House as soon-to-be mansion living, mega-rich elites, cashing in on the fears they had inculcated over the prior eight years.

To push through the accompanying unpopular agendas of an open border, mandatory wind and solar energy, racial essentialism, and the weaponization of the state, Obama had begun demonizing his opponents and the country in general: America was an unexceptional place. Cops were racist. “Clingers” of the Midwest were hopelessly ignorant and prejudiced. Only fundamental socialist transformation could salvage a historically oppressive, immoral, and racist nation.

The people finally rebelled at such preposterousness. Obama lost his party some 1,400 local and state offices during his tenure, along with both houses of Congress. His presidency was characterized by his own polarizing mediocrity. His one legacy was Obamacare...

The only thing that is missing in a good analysis is who in the Obama circle is actually the controller. We had a good eight years and time since to know that Barak is habitually a lazy show pony. He learns his line and sets a good public tone but he is not the hardworking mastermind.

I have always mentioned ValJar as my best guess but I am still uncertain.

I would advise against putting your faith in one man in Washington, especially one that at most has 4 years.

Personally, I don’t care about Trump, I don’t really care about DeSantis who had been a great governor of Florida, but will get little to nothing done in Washington. Once Trump is gone, we hopefully can get back to focusing on the agenda and attracting people to the Republican Party and not focusing on one man.

You have to learn from Democrats, they took over Blue States to the point Republicans can’t get elected, in Red States, they took over School Boards and school boards across the country.

Republicans need to OWN Red States, dominate local offices, including School boards, city councils, and mayors. We need to dominate state legislatures and governorships, congressional races and US Senators.

If you dominate Red States as I suggest, you would have anywhere between 26-28 states you controlled, that should give you a minimum of 52-56 US Senators in Washington, a majority to control one part of the legislature and stop crazy legislation from a Democrat POTUS.

If you dominated school boards you could eliminate the woke BS out of schools, if you dominated Governors and State Legislatures, you could implement school choice and tear down teachers unions and show people an alternative.

The mess we are in didn’t happen in 4 years or 24 years, it happened over a generation or two, defend Trump all you want, but he won’t be able to much of anything in Washington nor will any Republican until the underlying parts of Washington Change and takes dominating the states.

Lyndon Baynes Johnson planted the seed and Brack Hussein Obama cultivated that seedling. Now the senile puppet Joe Ribinette Biden is finishing the transformation. We are well beyond banana republic, we are in social-communistic tyranny now.

Some are praying that the election in 2024 will right our ship but I am doubtful that the sewer can ever be drained.

Unfortunately, it is much more complicated than that, and much further along.

Irrespective of the party affiliation, we have let a political class rise in this nation that has as their goal personal power and control - NOT service. It's not much different than the mafia in that regard. The goal is to become a ‘made’ person.

The relationship between the citizenry and the government has to be reset, and humility in government demanded. We can't have politicians who call half the electorate ‘deplorables’. We can't have a President who tells people ‘I don't work for you, Jack’. We can't have a judiciary that uses the ‘law’ as a weapon. We can't have ‘intelligence’ agencies that are OK with lying, cheating, targeting/entrapping/framing those they don't like, and who employ people who make fun of citizens who go to Walmart and who voted for Trump.

If we want to have a free nation going forward we have to address some very fundamental truths. Among these is that the system has become corrupted and has to be rebuilt - with an end to the expansive government bureaucracy, and an end to the career politician. Yes, this is difficult - but not impossible. It has to be done step by step. One way is to start demanding that politicians account for each and every penny by which their wealth increases while in office. This is something the general public will be onboard with. Take away the wealth aspect of public office, and you will clear out at least some of the corrupt politicians.

All of that is just a start, but you have to start. You can't bank on recruiting more smarmy country club ‘conservatives’ to come along and fix things. That will never work.

I agree with much of what you said, the system in Washington can’t be reformed , we can only hope to impede its March to totalitarian rule because ending that won’t be pretty

Like I said, IMO the only thing that can reset our entire system of government is a catastrophic defeat and collapse, perhaps a Great War, perhaps a total economic collapse but something really bad, how that plays out I’m not sure but our current system can’t be reformed and it will ultimately collapse regardless of who we elect

“I would advise against putting your faith in one man..”

You keep saying that.

LOL! That is like me saying I like carrots, and you saying I shouldn’t put my faith in one vegetable. Next, you’ll be calling me a carrot worshipper, or accusing me of being part of a carrot cult.

Look, I get it. You don’t like Trump. So don’t vote for him.. You don’t need to insult every Trump supporter by implying we are somehow under his spell or worshipping him.

Have a little respect. Someone will be POTUS, so I have to vote for someone and I choose Trump - AND I have rational reasons for doing so. If you have rational arguments for someone better, let’s hear them.

But knock off the “faith in one man” BS - it’s beneath you.

You assume too much, I dare you to find one post on FR that said I would not vote for Trump, I’ve always said I will vote for the Republican nominee. I’ve also asked this question often on FR to Trump supporters, would they vote for DeSantis if he wins the Republican nomination, the vast majority say no, the total reverse is true of DeSantis supporters, which absolutely proves my faith in one man BS as you call it.

The common theme among 100% Trump supporter is the belief he will fix everything, when in reality he will fix very little if anything based on how our system works.

Ask yourself this, do you honestly believe Trump will be acquitted of all charges in all the cases brought against him ??

Yes, he could pardon himself if elected in two of the cases, there is a reason why Democrats filed state charges against him to avoid him pardoning himself.

If he gets convicted of ONE state charge, every Trump supporter should hope the democrats never have control of the House of Representatives in a Trump 2nd term, he will get impeached immediately and this time he stands a really, really good chance to be convicted in the Senate and removed.

Under the current Senate makeup all it would take is 16 Republicans voting to convict to remove Trump, look at the list of Republican senators, it would not be hard to find 16 that would vote to convict.

Without fixing the underlying issues, Trump stands no chance of doing anything, yes we will vote for President, right now the total focus of most Republicans is Trump when it needs to be controlling the house and senate.

I stand by the faith in one man BS as you call it, you don’t like it but it’s true.

She has an amazing family tree - and she could be involved with the Chicago /Hyde Park crazies... (commies). So it’s possible. I also thought there was a step father or someone who was a St. Petersburg commie - but memory fails me...

It does appear she’s smart enough - and driven enough... could be she’s the one.

Look at minority run cities. If they have had 20+ years then the water and sewers stop working. They steal every dime via nepotism, corruption, racism … and then blame the whites and demand the productive part of the country pay to fix their incompetence. Including the additional cost of DIE/ESG/reparations.

Soon the choice will be either separation or migration or death.

Agreed. I have and would again vote for him, but the hero worship isn’t helpful or tolerable. Many don’t seem to realize that putting all of their faith and support in one person is not the least bit smart. A movement needs to be bigger than one guy to endure and create actual enduring change 😉

that’s exactly what I fear, the MAGA agenda is the right agenda, it needs to grow and become the new Republican Party, with the sole focus being Trump, once he’s gone the agenda will die as well if we don’t move past Trump and grow the movement.

If you follow twitter and other social media outlets, the inner circle of Trump advisors has a bunker mentality and attack everyone and everything that is less than 100% totally devoted to Trump.

Steve Bannon on his War Room show has gone so far as saying the fate of Trump is tied to the fate of the nation for only the 3rd time in US history, the first time was with George Washington, the 2nd time with Abraham Lincoln and now it’s tied to Donald Trump.

If the entire nation is tied to election of Donald Trump as POTUS, then we have already lost and the nation is gone, one man not Donald Trump, not anyone else is above the country.
