Victor Davis Hanson: What the Left Did to Our Country
American Greatness ^ | 4 Sep, 2023 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 09/04/2023 4:44:00 AM PDT by MtnClimber

Will their upheaval succeed?

In the last 20 years, the Left has boasted that it has gained control of most of America institutions of power and influence—the corporate boardroom, media, Silicon Valley, Wall Street, the administrative state, academia, foundations, social media, entertainment, professional sports, and Hollywood.

With such support, between 2009-17, Barack Obama was empowered to transform the Democratic Party from its middle-class roots and class concerns into the party of the bicoastal rich and subsidized poor—obsessions with big money, race, a new intolerant green religion, and dividing the country into a binary of oppressors and oppressed.

The Obamas entered the presidency spouting the usual leftwing boilerplate (“spread the wealth,” “just downright mean country,” “get in their face,” “first time I’ve been proud of my country”) as upper-middle-class, former community activists, hurt that their genius and talents had not yet been sufficiently monetized.

After getting elected through temporarily pivoting to racial ecumenicalism and pseudo-calls for unity, they reverted to form and governed by dividing the country. And then the two left the White House as soon-to-be mansion living, mega-rich elites, cashing in on the fears they had inculcated over the prior eight years.

To push through the accompanying unpopular agendas of an open border, mandatory wind and solar energy, racial essentialism, and the weaponization of the state, Obama had begun demonizing his opponents and the country in general: America was an unexceptional place. Cops were racist. “Clingers” of the Midwest were hopelessly ignorant and prejudiced. Only fundamental socialist transformation could salvage a historically oppressive, immoral, and racist nation.

The people finally rebelled at such preposterousness. Obama lost his party some 1,400 local and state offices during his tenure, along with both houses of Congress. His presidency was characterized by his own polarizing mediocrity. His one legacy was Obamacare...

Despite the GOPE’s efforts, there seems to be a strong grass roots emergence. MAGA/Patriots have basically taken over the Georgia party. Most of the big counties, and the state leadership. The RINOs are still pouting.

I don’t think it’s hate or anger. I think it’s jealousy and envy.

He’s been given far too much credit for his intelligence. He’s a puppet. Groomed to do what he is told by folks behind the curtain.

But he is smart enough to know that that is all he is. Yes, he is able cash in on it and enjoy a luxurious lifestyle. He’s still the man in the room when he’s meeting with the Leftist sycophants in DC, the Vineyard, NYC, SanFran.

Outside of that circle, he knows he ain’t all that. His first campaign he was filling arenas. The second one, not so much. All he wanted to do is party in the White House with Beyonce and JayZ. Had zero interest in doing anything else. And that’s a given considering that he is just as incompetent as the current President.

If he held a rally tomorrow in support of Biden, they’d have to pay and bus people in. And he knows that.

The US was concerned about the Domino Theory during the Cold War. We spent effort and money preventing the spread of communism on a nation by nation basis... yet we missed that the same thing could happen domestically on an institution by institution basis.

Now we are surrounded by those hostile elements

A majority of citizens believe that killing a million unborn babies each year is good - we have lost our way.

Many turn a blind eye, but are at least uncomfortable with this disgusting practice. Sadly, there are just as many who love abortion so much that they get furious at any attempt to restrict it in any way.

I know people here like to say there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats - but it’s not true. The militant and outspoken defenders of baby killing are almost always Democrats.

Same with the open border - Democrats are far, far worse.
Go down the list of wrong-headed policy agendas - Democrats are far worse.

Yes, Republican politicians have mostly been a huge disappointment, and Republican voters are too passive, confused and unresolved.

The most powerful weapon of the Left is it’s forked tongue - it is the great deceiver, and it’s favorite lie of all is that there is no right and wrong side - that your choice will make no difference.

That’s not true - we have a fighter who rose up through the Republican Party - President Trump - and that could not happen in the thoroughly corrupted Democrat party.

Yes, there are too many RINOs who are just as bad - I know that. But this idea that the two parties are the same - that is a trick of the Left - don’t fall for it.

If the Leftists succeed, America will become South Africa. America is already becoming completely ungovernable and failing as a nation.

IMHO the only hope of saving this country without armed conflict would be the creation of another political party led by a group of constitutional scholars and attorneys who would be totally committed to leading all patriotic Americans, i.e., the majority, in the reestablishment of our country governed strictly in accordance with the principles set forth by its founders in its founding documents.

A tombstone erected in 1890:

The presidency of 7th US president Andrew Jackson was from 1829 to 1837. It was followed by a depression that lasted from 1836 to 1843, caused in large part due to his policies.

I respect your opinions, but my point is, Donald Trump is just one man, there is no possible way in our current form of government for him to implement long lasting change in the 4 years he would have, without a Complient House and Senate.

IMO, putting all your faith in one man to save us is akin to worshipping a false god, which doesn’t usually work out well.

Yep…the long march through the institutions, begun long before most of us were just a gleam in our parents eyes.

Why doesn’t VDH start from the beginning of the progressive era and progressivism? Instead of just 20 years?

This is a big problem, actually. We constantly have conservative writers, thinkers, and pontificators who don’t actually start from the beginning and it leaves us blind to the beginnings of all this progressive mess.

I know he is not intending to implicate old progressives as now “good guys”. He gets this 20 year window accurate, but there is so much more that needs to be examined.

Ping! Out to the Victor Davis Hanson list

And what a revolution Biden’s puppeteers have unleashed in less than three years.

They launched a base attack on the American legal system. Supreme Court judges are libeled, their houses swarmed, and their lives threatened with impunity. The Left promised to pack the court or to ignore any decision it resents. The media runs hit pieces on any conservative justice deemed too influential. The prior Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer whipped up a mob outside the court’s doors, and threatened two justices by name. As Schumer presciently put it, they would soon “reap the whirlwind” of what they supposedly had sowed and thus would have no idea what was about to “hit” them.

Whoever would be qualified to head the formation of a new party would also, and more easily, form a shadow Establishment.

Ditto, to what you said. The hate goes back to the 2 founders of the dimocRAT party, it’s ensconced firmly in the DNA of every RAT voter.
