Almost a third of Americans are still worried about the threat of Covid, a survey suggests.
When asked by YouGov, 'How worried are you about getting Covid-19?', 24 percent of adults said they were 'somewhat worried', while seven percent said they were 'very worried.'
The answers — given between August 17 and August 21 — are down slightly from April 2022, when 45 percent said 'somewhat worried' and 13 percent said 'very worried'.
The poll was conducted amid a slight upswing in Covid rates and the rise of two highly mutated variants — EG.5, or Eris, and BA.2.86, or Pirola.
Meanwhile, one in seven said they are still wearing a mask 'some of the time', and the same proportion said they would 'think less of' someone wearing a mask in public.
Yahoo conducted the survey! and YouGov using a representative sample of 1,665 US adults who were interviewed online
Black Americans and Democrats were more likely than other groups to say they follow Covid news 'very closely' or 'somewhat closely'.
In general, a third of Americans said they had been closely following the current reports of the number of Covid infections.
When asked about booster shots, 34 percent said they would be willing to get another one and nine percent said they would not. The other 57 percent indicated they had not received an initial booster shot.
Some 14 percent said they think less of people they now see wearing a mask in public, but 73 percent said they would not judge either way.
Nine percent said they would think more of them, and the remaining four percent were not sure.

1 in 7....still wearing masking....more like 1 in 70,0000.
I appreciate folks who wear a mask. It signals that they are imbeciles with whom there is no need to engage or interact.
One in seven are certainly not wearing a mask in Northern New England. Maybe 1/200.
Right. I see perhaps one person in the wild, per day, wearing a mask.
The lasy I read, 98% of the population had some protection from Covid...I think we call it herd immunity...and it would have come a lot sooner except the states insisted on lockdowns.
Me too.
1 in 7? What, did they limit the survey to blue cities? I haven’t seen anyone wearing a mask for weeks, and probably at most 10 people over the past 6 months.
1 in 7 are morons walking around with masks so old they are usually brown instead of their original white.
Wearing a mask in public is an announcement that the wearer is irrationally afraid, irretrievably ignorant and breathtakingly naive. I just smile and walk on by. I don’t know — or care, for that matter — what their response is because they’re hiding their face and shielding their identity ... as they should.
I guess 1/3 of Americans are giant f***ing pussies.
Haha, love it!
I go the same convenience store every day to get coffee, a guy in his mid-30s works there in the mornings, he’s still wearing a mask, quite a few mornings when I get there at 5am when the store opens, he’s standing out front smoking a cigarette.
I can’t help but see the contradiction a guy still wearing a mask because of Covid who smokes cigarettes.
Down nearly 50% in 4 months isn’t slightly!
Worried? Not a bit
Mask? Not a chance
Think of others who wear masks? Retards
What a stupid society we have.
With my asthma, I’m no more worried about getting Covid than I am the flu. I stay out of crowds in winter as much as possible.
I’m in a blue state and see it somewhere between the 2, so there’s clearly some “virtue responding” from the maskinistas here.
