Alabama may become the first state to execute a prisoner by making him breathe pure nitrogen, a death penalty method that is authorized by three states but has never been used.
The office of Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall asked the state Supreme Court in a court filing on Friday to set an execution date for 58-year-old death row inmate Kenneth Eugene Smith. The filing revealed Alabama intends to put him to death by nitrogen hypoxia.
Smith was one of two men convicted in the 1988 murder-for-hire killing of a preacher’s wife. “It is a travesty that Kenneth Smith has been able to avoid his death sentence for nearly 35 years after being convicted of the heinous murder-for-hire slaying of an innocent woman, Elizabeth Sennett,” Marshall said in a statement.

By your logic no one should be punished for anything because Jesus already died to pay for all our sins. That’s not how a civil society remains a civil society.
"For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all...Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
2 Cor. 5:14, 18-21.
No, the nitrogen will only displace the oxygen. All that will happen is he will gradually lose consciousness, and then his organs will fail due to lack of oxygen.
Divers get the bends because the nitrogen comes out of solution in the bloodstream due to the pressure drop.

That’s what I was going to say. You said it better than I would have.
Now you imply (possibly unintentionally) that the Bible contradicts itself when it does not.
This is the Church talking about itself and its membership, not talking about the world. Please stop taking verses out of context. Nowhere is the grace of God extended to those who reject it, and nowhere is the abolition of the death penalty in general even implied in that verse.
No, but that method was used by "John Clark" in the Clancy novel Without Remorse to extract information from one of the bad guys.
No you haven't and you're going to have to better than "vengeance" (Rom. 12:19).
Doctors/nurses refuse to participate in executions. But those same people will perform an abortion. Kill the innocent, protect the guilty. The absolute height of hypocrisy. Always confused me.
Too exhausting. My arguments are there. It’s up to you to access them.
Your misunderstanding and misapplication of scripture is the problem. Of course scripture does not contradict itself.
You’re terrible. That made me laugh.
ServePro would disagree
Nope. I worked in a lab that had liquid nitrogen pumped in. The only way to detect a fatal leak is an oxygen sensor because 77% of the air we normally breathe is already nitrogen.
Bends are caused by an internal pressure differential.
Are you crazy? I don't want them to come back to life like Robert Patrick in T2.
But you go on right ahead. Argue some more if you like. Have the last word.
You have my permission.
You’re projecting. An unchanging God does not abolish His law or its punishments.
The end result would be the same: death. But CO2 causes the suffocation panic effect ("I can't breathe!"), while N2 does not.
N2 is absolutely the best - and cheapest - way to go. A little buzz like from alcohol and then the big Nothing. I simply do not understand why any state would go with the lethal injection regimen. Complicated, distressing (oh, wait, perhaps of that), and expensive. A quarter's worth of N2 will do it, and much more humanely.
He has an option, don’t breath.
Umm, no. They will experience nitrogen narcosis which is a feeling of euphoria before you expire from oxygen deprivation. The bends occurs when nitrogen saturates your joints and blood from extreme pressure and the pressure is removed too quickly and cannot be resorbed slowly. It comes out of suspension as bubbles and create extreme pain and emboli. There is no extreme pressure associated with the gas chamber.
Mexico abolished the death penalty in 2005, and its courts have not executed anyone since the 1950s. Not because the Mexican people opposed the death penalty, but because they concluded the Mexican government was too corrupt, and incompetent, to be trusted to administer it.
