Less than two weeks into the school year, a Kentucky school district has canceled in-person classes for the rest of the week after nearly a fifth of its students came down with Covid, strep throat, the flu and other illnesses.
The Lee County School District, which has just under 900 students, began classes Aug. 9 but noticed attendance drop to about 82% on Friday, Superintendent Earl Ray Schuler said.
By Monday, the rate dipped to 81%, and 14 staff members called in sick, Schuler said.
The district canceled classes Tuesday and Wednesday and will shift to remote learning Thursday and Friday. Extracurricular activities, including sports practices and games, have been canceled through the week to allow for a deep clean of the schools, Schuler said.
“We’re sanitizing our buses and our buildings and giving our staff and our students time to heal,” he said.

Home school. Private school. Stop supporting public school.
It’s because there are so many compromised immune systems after their force jab program. The fall and winter flu months will be interesting.
Me: Here’s my taxes.
School: Thanks. Here’s a new virus every 2 weeks.
Strange. I always remembered flu and strep to be winter diseases.
Well, herr fauci says the pure bloods must be locked down this winter. Uh, no! And, phucough fauxnocchio! 🖕
🔬🤔😵🚫😷💉💊🐎💩
School: “If you want to get out of going to school, say you have Covid”
Students: “We all have Covid”
Elites: “It’s a pandemic. Live in fear and obedience”.
Making immunity impossible is their plan
14 teachers...yeh right...
Now they know they can get away with it....time to go nation-wide.
82% attendance is no reason to cancel. Let the sick stay home and the rest keep going.
What’s an outbreak ???
One kid ??? Two Kids ???
That should be “Git”
School has 800 kids...so 65 kids out?? So say 20 kids in a class...that's 40 classes....so one-two kids in each class is sick? That's an outbreak??
The teachers unions want smaller class sizes (MORE TEACHERS to pay dues) and now they have it.
I agree, but you must know that this happens in private schools, too. It happened once when my kids were in (parochial) grade school. My 3 were sick, and we heard as they were getting better, that classes were canceled for a few days. They took back teacher workdays to catch up on the school calendar. It happens, though I’m sure it was well into winter when it happened at their school.
Starting with schools to build up the fear campaign of lockdowns again.
They know its safe to start there because they can’tbd canceled.
That’s not an Outbreak.
That’s just good old fashioned Democrat Plantation (Teacher’s Union) Fear Porn!!!!
In this case they’re saying about 180 kids are out (out of 900), along with 14 teachers.
Kids don’t suffer much even if they get covid, but I’d be concerned if strep were widespread in the school. It’s dangerous and there have been shortages of antibiotics they use for strep.
I had strep along with covid about 10 months ago. Didn’t really suffer from covid (sniffles and a little tired, I’ve had worse colds), but my throat was crazy painful. They had to give me a second tier antibiotic because amoxicillin/augmentin were in short supply. It got rid of the strep, but not as rapidly as amoxicillin would have.
