RICHMOND — Media mogul Rupert Murdoch has repeatedly encouraged Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) to run for president in 2024, according to two people familiar with entreaties made in at least two face-to-face meetings.
The previously unreported meetings took place months ago, but Murdoch’s ask has taken on fresh relevance as Youngkin continues to lay the groundwork for a potential last-minute White House bid and as Murdoch outlets hyped his presidential prospects this month with a mix of sober Wall Street Journal analysis and buzzy Page Six blurbs.

Ruppert thinks he’s still in charge.
Whatever you can say about Carlyle Group Lizard Man Youngkin, he will probably be a more competent candidate than deSantis.
Virginia is a tough nut to crack. You have rich men north of Richmond, on the other hand you have the real Virginians in the rest of the state.
i think Youngkin is way too smart to pointlessly sacrifice himself on Murdoch’s anti-trump alter ...
And they'll still say "I voteded/suppported Trump, but desantis youngkin...." and still say they aren't nevertrumpers...
Youngkin seems competent and interesting, but he also appears to be a mild mannered person by nature. That’s all fine, to be a man of peace, so long as you can respond to aggression or rudeness from the other side without quickly shutting down or going mute.
When it comes to national politics, nice guys all too often do finish last. You have to be ready to crack that proverbial whip as the situation demands. Chris Christie could do that part easily , but I don’t trust his motivation any more.
If something should happen with Trump, Youngkin would be a better candidate than anyone else who is running.
I prefer DeSantis but I'm willing to go with Youngkin, not my preferred candidate but if he can capture the White House, that's all it matters.
With DeSantis or Youngkin, it's possible to win the White House.
There's no chance with Trump.
He should run for Senate next year.
Rupert is a closet leftist.
Rupert has succeeded in making Ron DeSantis persona non grata among conservatives.
Now Rupert is promoting Youngkin to make Glen disliked among the conservatives.
So far Rupert seems to be very successful in turning conservatives away from politicians who were once their favorites.
There must be OTHER DWARFS he could encourage. It’s so hard to decide. Wouldja believe .... Doug Ducey? Paul Ryan? Mitt Hominey? Mike Pence? You say Pence is already running? Who knew?
Murdock flunkey, Steve Doocey, bounces up and down on the white couch at the mention of Youngkin.
JEB!
Youngkin (gets up to pour Murdoch another drink)
Youngkin: I said that I would see you because, I heard that you’re a serious man, to be treated with respect.
But uh, I must say “no” to you — and I’ll give you my reasons. It’s true, I have a lot of friends in politics, but they wouldn’t be friendly very long if they knew my business was Trump-bashing instead of political maneuvering, which they rule that as a — harmless vice. But anti-MAGA is a dirty business.
Murdoch was hugely instrumental in DeSantis burning his political fortunes to ash.
Murdoch is a king-killer. If he’d left well enough alone and let the political market decide the fate of the 2024 Republican Presidential race, DeSantis would be well-positioned to be the king in 2028. As it stands now, tho, DeSantis is essentially politically homeless.
Not for me-too mild mannered-and being owned/pushed by a RINO Murdoch is a fatal flaw-last thing we need is a guy who thinks being nice to ‘rats and RINOs is the way to win in the cage match that politics in DC has become...
He is going to have to start playing hardball with the school boards. They are giving him the finger over the new parent involvement policies.
No.
i think Youngkin is way too smart to pointlessly sacrifice himself on Murdoch’s anti-trump alter ...
From your lips to God’s ear!
I pray Glenn stays Gov. & runs for Senate.
I fear Glenn’s ego & the money they are prepared to throw at him to take another shot @ 45.
