A huge explosion has rocked a port in Turkey, some 100 miles from Istanbul, injuring at least a dozen people.

Footage shared online shows the moment of the blast at a grain storage facility in Kocaeli’s Derince district.

Two workers can be spotted hurrying away as the fire engulfed the building near the seafront.

Thick plumes of black smoke can be seen billowing into the sky from miles away.

Derince mayor Zeki Aygün told local media that four people have been rushed to hospital after incident that happened just after 2.30pm local time, near the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) silos.

‘We heard an explosion noise and we saw the explosion hit TMO’s silos,’ he was quoted as saying.

Kocaeli Governor Seddar Yavuz later added that the number of those injured has risen to 12 with three seriously.

In a statement to TRT Haber, he said the blast occurred due to ‘dust jamming’ in the TMO silos during the transfer of wheat from the ships.

Turkey’s Ministry of Transportation confirmed that no ships were damaged due to the explosion.

Perhaps the Turks are pissing off the Russians or the Ukrainians want to pull Turkey into the war.

Definitely Putin

He destroyed Russia’s own $20 billion gas pipeline

He blew up a damn russia controlled

He bombs Russian civilians so he can blame Ukraine

He tried to kill himself in the Kremlin

He planned to blow up a nuclear plant Russia controlled, until the world stopped him.

Now he’s blowing up Russian grain in Turkey.

(....waiting for the NY Times and CNN)

Or…the grain silo blew up. Grain silos blow up from grain dust often. It’s rare…but not unheard of.

Looks to me like a “grain dust” ignition/explosion.
Big flash at start and then black/gray smoke from smoldering grain.

From Purdue University, School of Engineering:

Dust explosion incidents increased last year, no fatalities (US)

The annual summary recording nationwide grain dust bin explosions reported nine incidents in 2022.

This compares to seven reported incidents in 2021 and a 10-year average of 7.8 explosions annually.

Kingsly Ambrose, Purdue University professor of agricultural and biological engineering and report author, said that despite the increase in explosions from the previous year and 18 total injuries this year, no fatalities were reported.

The explosions occurred in one ethanol plant, two feed mills, two grain elevators, two rice mills and two grain processing plants.

To be fair, the Beirut explosion was fertilizer that was to be sent to Islamic rebels in Mozambique, and left too long in storage (bribes not paid?).
