Watchdog demands answers after hospital accused of expelling cancer patient for views on transgenderism

PORTLAND, Ore. (TND) — Watchdog group New Tolerance Campaign (NTC) is demanding answers after an Oregon hospital allegedly denied a cancer patient treatment for her views on transgenderism.

“We know cancel culture can cost people their jobs. Now, it can cost you your life,” NTC wrote.

A hospital in the Oregon Health and Science University system reportedly made the decision after the patient, whose name is Marlene, expressed criticism of a prominently displayed transgender flag in the hospital.

“Where is the Flag for women? For children?” screenshots of her comments posted on social media read. “I have been threatened on Twitter by transactivists with rape and death- so it is daunting to go for medical treatment with that banner.”

For sending the message to the hospital, the woman was allegedly told she was expelled from treatment. NTC is now urging the public to send messages to the hospital defending the patient.

Marlene’s opinions may not be acceptable to some members of your staff, but that does not exempt her from medical care. The Hippocratic Oath demands doctors 'practice two things in dealings with disease: either help or do not harm the patient.' OHSU is upholding neither,” a sample email to OHSU reads. NTC President Gregory T. Angelo told The National Desk in a statement the issue of "medical tyranny" is not an isolated problem, and that people across the country should be concerned about this incident.

"If people in need can be denied medical care because their views don’t align with leftist dogma, then we have entered a dark new era of cancel culture that — quite literally — has deadly consequences," Angelo told TND.

A spokesperson from OHSU declined comment to The National Desk Friday, citing patient confidentiality concerns, but did say that patients are entitled to care that is free of discrimination.

“An OHSU patient has a right to care that is delivered in a way that is free from abuse, discrimination or harassment based on age, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, culture, language, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, physical or mental disability, religion, socioeconomic status, marital status, military or reserve status, or any other status protected by law,” a spokesperson said.

While this policy is in place, it is also a patient’s responsibility to avoid language that can be interpreted as threatening, the hospital said.

“OHSU patients, families and visitors have a responsibility to refrain from using discriminatory, profane, derogatory or threatening language, imagery or behavior, and understand that these behaviors can result in limitation of visiting privileges and impact access to care at OHSU.”

Too bad you had to experience that.

I have not. Only one trans flag outside a building I am aware of here and it might be gone now.

BTW, general anesthesia would be very unusual in the case of colonoscopy. Normally just sedation, specifically conscious sedation or sometimes monitored anesthesia care (MAC) or deep sedation. All these require a driver (and most don’t permit Uber, etc).

I worked at a large level one trauma center and frequently heard large groups of “healthcare workers” of all professions discuss and laugh and agree that people who refuse trumps vax be denied all care. This is still a frequent conversation I hear. Those sweet care givers would love to watch you suffer and die if you disagree with them or demand autonomy.

I’ve been a doctor since 1974 and I’ve heard every kind of loose talk you can imagine.

Loose talk is one thing. Loose talk translating to what happens at the bedside is something very different.

There are many formal and informal things in place to prevent something like this from ever happening. For this to be carried out would require a conspiracy of unimaginable scope.

I ran an AIDS treatment center in 1987. That was a mecca for loose talk of this kind. And yes I had resistance to doing the right thing, sometimes.

But if you can make your loose talker stand up in a meeting and say it - it’s game over.

This did not happen.

Yeah - and folks weren’t denied transplants for refusing the jabs either - riiiiight?

You misunderestimate the hate of the pro-perversion crowd....
