Nearly half of Republicans wouldn't vote for Trump if convicted of a felony: Poll

Just under half of Republicans would not vote for former President Donald Trump in 2024 if he is convicted of a felony, according to a new poll.

In a survey conducted on Wednesday and Thursday, 45% of Republicans nationwide said if Trump was "convicted of a felony crime by a jury," they would not vote for him.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll also revealed that 35% indicated that they would vote for him regardless. All others said they didn't know.

More than half of Republicans, 52%, said they wouldn't vote for Trump if he were "currently serving time in prison." Still, 28% said the former president would still have their vote.

Despite this, 75% of respondents agreed that the indictments brought against him were politically motivated. Two-thirds further said they don't believe the most recent indictment's assertion that Trump sought to perpetrate election fraud in an effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Trump pleaded not guilty on Thursday to special counsel Jack Smith's four new charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.

Even as roughly half of Republicans say a conviction would deter their vote, the former president has seen boosts in support in Republican primary polls on each occasion that he has been indicted or received a target letter foreshadowing an imminent indictment.

In one of several posts on Truth Social on Thursday, Trump alluded to these bumps in support, saying, "I NEED ONE MORE INDICTMENT TO ENSURE MY ELECTION!"

If they somehow manage to keep President Trump off the ballot a large portion of Trump Supporters will simply write him in.

I'm sure some of you probably would, since you seem more emotionally connected to the fate of Trump, than the fate of America.

But there may not be as many of you who would go that far, as you think.

Where's a poll on that, Mr. post 5 polls a day? If there are none, it's because almost no one would go so far as to throw their vote away on a Trump write-in.

I wish it were different. Optics and sound bites and feelings sway elections.

Nah, no one believes Rob can win straight up against Trump. He has one chance - the Deep State overwhelms the field with BS.

He has signed a blood oath with Soros to abet this effort and changed FL law to obscure it.

"Considering the Trump haters here on FR of all places I don’t doubt the poll."

They are just a small number of pimples on DeSantis's ass.

You guys always act like voting establishment is voting for America.

You play the cards you're dealt, and hope the next hand is better. You don't just immediately fold if you didn't get a straight flush each time. Unless you just like losing.

Besides, voting for politicians is a crap shoot to begin with. NONE of them are hardly worth a flip, and usually the longer they stick around, the more and more they get exposed, or corrupted.

But quitters always lose. Pick a horse and ride it, R or D. Put the old or broken horses to pasture, or down, there will always be some new ponies next year to choose from. Unless it's just all too much for you.

The way his only trumper supporters attack people like me who will vote for anyone at the top of the republican ticket because they aren’t the Democrat

And voting for "Anyone" is exactly the strategy which has left America nearly dead on the floor. In every direction, trade, borders, economy, foreign policy, debt.. We got lip service and lies for decades. Failure and decline for Americans. Great job!

Absolute opposite, but I do not expect a DeSanctimonious Online Supporter like you to be honest about.

It is because our first loyalty is to the fate of America that we will be writing in President Trum’s name if need be because we know a NeoCon, Globalist like DeSantis both cannot won under any circumstances and American best interests (MAGA) are never served by a NeoCon Globalist POTUS, whether Tepublican or Democrat.

And there’s Golden Eagle spinning and mis-representing things again...

Because most people in the republican party identify with Trump, rather than the good ole boy, deep swamp GOPe rinos...

And if and when Trump walks away with his supporters, the ‘republican’ party will go the way of the whig party....

Bogus Poll. I may no longer be a Trump fan but I will 100% vote for him if he wins the nomination for the Rep Party. If the marxist thug party convicts him, then I will probably vote for him in the primary.
