A baby was rescued from a searing hot car in southern Texas earlier this week after the kid’s family accidentally left the keys in the vehicle.
Footage of the rescue taken by a bystander shows the scene unfolding in the parking lot of an HEB in Harlingen, which is at the southernmost tip of Texas.
[snip]
The bystander who filmed the scene told outlets that what was not recorded was a woman who climbed through the broken front windshield to reach the baby and hand the child out.
The heat index for that day was more than 100 degrees.

“I learned the hard way that my car doors lock if the keys are out of the ignition and you shut the doors. If you lay the keys on the seat along with your phone and purse while you remove groceries or children, etc, and the door shuts, you are out of luck.”
I had that happen on a rental car. Glad I had AAA.

Yes, and odd they passed the baby out through the broken window after a person was in the car, just open a door... but maybe there was some other issue.

I’m confused why this is news. Fox desperation for relevance? Many children die in hot cars every year.
A hot car in a particularly massive heatwave can kill a child in minutes.
Fox distributes news nationally, including in the southwest where there is a massive heatwave.
It is a public service to remind people to be vigilant about this particular danger while they are in a heatwave.

Lock the idiot parent in a hot vehicle tomorrow and see if they ever forget their child again.Parent did not forget child in car. Parent locked keys in car. People do that all the time. Parent did not hesitate to destroy the windshield to correct the error. Not idiotic.

carrying extra set of keys — just in case... I have been doing that for the past 40 years after absentmindedly locking my keys in my car one time. No children were involved, but the valet parking guy wanted to sue me for blocking up his lot for an hour.

No problem. You have a blessed day yourself. 🙂

Although I can't remember the last time it happened now. That is funny. Since I started carrying the spare in my wallet, I may have used it once in the last 20 years.

Back in the 1970s, my Dad would cut those seat belts out of every car he owned. Us kids would just rattle around the back seat or the back of a station wagon.
I loved the pickup trucks my uncles had at the time. I'd leap into the open bed, sometimes with my dog, and take a ride. Nothing screams freedom to a kid more than riding in the back of an open pickup and having the wind blow through your hair.
At the time, nobody ever thought that behavior was irresonsible.

Yeah, my Dad had an old 57 stepside chevy pickup. Sometimes he'd drive while I hung on to the window frame with my feet on the step behind him. I could yell at him if he went too fast!
