Ex-President Donald Trump threatened it would be “very dangerous” if he were jailed over the new charges he’s likely facing, citing the “passion” of his fan base.
Trump completely hijacked the news cycle when he announced Tuesday that he’s about to be indicted in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into Trump’s conduct surrounding the 2020 election leading up to the January 6 attack on the Capitol.
Since that all-caps-festooned announcement, Trump has ranted about the charges in various public forums, and it did not take long for him to raise the specter of violence that his supporters resorted to after he incited them on January 6. Trump gave an interview with Iowa’s The Simon Conway Show on Tuesday following the news, and spoke to host Doug Wagner filling in for Simon Conway. Wagner brought up the prospect of Trump being jailed prior to his trial, and asked Trump what his message to fans would be:
DOUG WAGNER: Is it something that concerns you of the people making sure that they don’t go out of their right mind if something like that happens, if that, for example, they do say — Jack Smith says, OK, I’m going to put Donald Trump in jail?
DONALD TRUMP: I think it’s a very dangerous thing to even talk about, because we do have a tremendously passionate group of voters, much more passion than they had in 2020 and much more passion than they had in 2016. I think it would be very dangerous.
Trump has made similar and at times more direct comments in the past under nearly identical circumstances.
Trump whipped up a frenzy on the eve of his indictment and arrest in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s investigation around hush money payments to Stormy Daniels — the stage name of Stephanie Clifford — by telling supporters he expected to be arrested and urging them to “PROTEST” and “TAKE OUR NATION BACK!”
After several escalations, Trump upped the ante yet again in a late-night social media post by warning of “death & destruction” if he were charged. Violence did not ensue in that case.
And that is why we are losing.
The Leftists have no problem using government force and sponsored terrorism of criminal gangs against us. Their methods are effective. Our "civil society" methods are not.
All this has happened before in other places and other times. Here it comes again.
I’ve always thought they would never actually convict him of stuff for fear of backlash, riots, lone incidents etc
Same reason I felt why they let OJ off
When I start believing in space aliens, I’ll give that my consideration. 🙂
Lol.
Sorry, it is sad, but no one should have entered the Capitol Building. He never directed them to do so
Xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Right.
They should have never listened to ray epps
Trump is probably just pointing out the obvious. In nations where the winning political party jails their opponents after the election the political process becomes much more unstable, and all kinds of problems result.
Anybody who has studied history, or followed political events around the world would know that.
You've been opining for DESWAMPIS even before he 'officially' announced his candidacy
What was he supposed to do about folks hemmed up from Jan6th?
Apparently you did.
What part of my statement is a lie? I was a Trump supporter, still defend him, up until weeks ago, probably around May and attended DeSantis event on June 17. Go back and read my comments on FR, it’s all there.
This is interesting.
Smith is going to charge Trump with insurrection over the events of J6.
Will he also charge Trump with insurrection over the remarks Trump is making over Smith’s threats?
“will jack smith be brazen enough to throw trump into the DC Gulag?”
That is up to the judge and jury.
It’s not for Trump. You don’t get it
No. The jury decides that. Trump has to have top lawyers to prove he did none of the things they say he’s done. If he accomplished that, he’ll be free. Although calling on more violence even since those are the exact charges he’s facing is a very strange defense.
Excuse me. Nixon was pardoned without charges. The January 6th protesters could have been too. Trump screwed up period. He might have thought none of them would do jail time. Forethought not good.
He is supporting the most conservative in the race. He has receipts as well. You are supposed to add the person you are defaming by the way. Not so smart are ya?
Follow the threads. You don’t have to be too smart to do that.
Eventually there is a breaking point. Reference the storming of Bastille, the reason and the result. There are a lot of similarities between then and now. To bad so few care to learn.
my point, is that no one with half a brain is going to raise a ruckus if Trump is imprisoned after seeing what happened to those who tried to help him on Jan 6th and how he allowed them to be treated.
Democrats fight harder for convicted mass murderers than Trump has for those who went to support him on Jan 6th.
