Why a $90 million push could help U.S. buildings withstand climate disasters

In a bid to make buildings more energy-efficient and resilient to extreme weather, the administration on Wednesday will award $90 million in grants to help cities, states, tribes and organizations implement stronger codes for new and renovated construction, according to details shared first with The Washington Post.

The announcement Tuesday reflects the policy limitations that Biden faces. Building codes are adopted at the state and local levels, so the federal government is limited in what it can require. And with Republicans in control of the House of Representatives, Congress is unlikely to impose any new national requirements.

These constraints have caused Biden to embrace carrots rather than sticks when it comes to building codes and climate action more broadly. By dangling billions of dollars through the infrastructure law and the Inflation Reduction Act, the administration is hoping to encourage more states and municipalities to act.

“We’re not going to mandate it. But by getting the data out there, getting the tools out there [and] by being a partner at the federal level, then you have all of these state and local actors fall in the right direction,” Ali Zaidi, the White House national climate adviser, said in the joint interview with Landrieu.

The largest grant of $9.6 million will go to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, a D.C.-based nonprofit group that plans to work with states and municipalities on updated energy codes.

This is nothing more than a blue city grift. The money will evaporite into Blue city government bloat and corrupt liberal causes.

Perfect way to launder money to antifa and “grooming” liberal luminaires.

Every time I hear that the feds are handing out money, for anything, my first thought is “whose nest is getting feathered today?” To say I have completely lost faith in this administration is a gross understatement.

“Non-profit” group so long as you consider $135,000.00 per year salaries to people accomplishing nothing “non-profit.” This will ensure taxpayer money stays within the four riches zip codes in the country and within 10 miles of the center of the swamp.

How is the regime able to spend so much money on trivial projects when Trump had to fight so much to fund the security wall?

Oh good grief. Climate fear porn has achieved dimensions of stupidity requiring scientific notation to describe the magnitude.

Ha ha. That $90 million is just for the cost of implementing the regulations that would have to be adhered to.

Our government is completely out of control. Completely. Irrespective of the checks and balances so thoughtfully included in our system by the founders, if the people in government have no integrity and no morality, the system is doomed to failure. We have scum in government. Not only that, we have unimpressive unqualified scum. It’s a very bad combination.

Codes always increase the cost above what many can afford. The result is a bigger gap between the well housed and those not so well housed.

Free market is always the cheapest, meaning the poor can afford better housing.

I really think we conservatives are playing this climate thing all wrong. Now the the brainwashing of the kids is complete and so hard to undo, we should be looking for tactics like this to monetize it in our favor. Sell carbon credits and use the money to fund conservative primary candidates. $90 million dollar infrastructure projects with a healthy shipping and handling fee for MAGA. That sort of thing. :)
