Democratic presidential challenger Robert F. Kennedy Jr. called Sunday for the federal legalization of marijuana, arguing that states should be allowed to decide their own pot laws without federal interference.
Politicians have taken steps toward legalization in recent years, though even under President Barack Obama — an admitted former marijuana enthusiast — federal law considered pot illegal, creating tension with states.

“We need to have a national standard for stoned behind the wheel.”
Yes it’s high time the issue is taken care of.
The ugly secret is 4473 gives .gov
Reasonable Cause.
this guy is coming..
Meh. What he says, and what he’d do....
“So, if you believe legalization is a mistake, does that mean you support putting people in jail for possession of a plant?...”
The Coca 🌿 is a plant or part thereof.
By your reasoning the importation, wholesaling, retailing and use of coca leaves should be A OK.
Where do we draw the line?
Which one of the Sunday shows was he on?
Is Jr. a drug user like the rest of the family?
Well,it’s more important to fit in...soooo..fire one up!
His voice may be a result of partaking of the weed. Google it
Glad to be one of those old people, who as a younger person was against the legalization of pot, and at almost 76, still is. I don’t drink, and I’ve never smoked. It’s the main reason I’ve outlived everyone in my family. Nobody made it to 75.
Another thing I agree with Bobby on. Theist is growing. Pretty soon there might be a Kennedy flag out front.
I don’t think pot should be legal, it’s gross. But I agree with states rights more than my own opinions about stuff.
Well if he's a pot head, he does a damn good job of keeping off the couch, eating Doritos etc, as the stereotype goes.
That’s what this whole debate is about, where do we draw lines with drug legalization.
Do we have any standards at all, or are we just libertarian on all drugs? There are quite a few libertarians on Free Republic, maybe they will chime in.
The war on “WEED” has been LOST!
Too late to put it back in the jar.
Step up enforcement of DUI (including weed). Public intoxication (including for weed).
Its like forcing gun laws on law abiding citizens instead of enforcing tough sentencing for criminals who use guns.
ass-backwards Bizarro World.
Going after the Libertarian vote.
He’s not exactly the first one to suggest this. Even the Trump admin was open to this idea.
ANYTHING that takes power out of Fed.gov hands and gives it to states is welcome
The best way to inhibit marijuana is to legalize industrial hemp. Hemp has no THC, and its pollen can “ruin” a female marijuana plant. It either lowers the amount of THC in its resin, or the female plant no longer makes resin entirely having been fertilized.
But what of the hemp? It is ridiculously useful for everything from high quality, silk-like material for clothes, to high quality non-acid treated paper the lasts many times longer than wood pulp paper, to other uses for wood pulp, and it has a high temperature oil that is edible.
Growing it is a cinch. It will grow in marginal farmland unsuitable for crops, requires little watering, fertilizer or pesticide.
What’s not to like?
Let the states decide... on pot, NOT killing babies...
