Titanic tourist sub missing in the Atlantic Ocean runs out of oxygen

The Titanic tourist submersible that vanished on a trip to the 111-year-old shipwreck at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean is believed to have run out of oxygen — but authorities pushed ahead with the search operation Thursday morning.

OceanGate Expeditions, which operates the Titan sub and whose CEO, Stockton Rush, is aboard the missing vessel, told the Coast Guard on Sunday evening that the vehicle was equipped with only 96 hours of oxygen, with the timer running out around 7:08 a.m. Thursday.

The status of the five passengers aboard the ill-fated trip remains unclear as US and Canadian officials work around the clock to attempt to locate the missing Titan sub 900 miles east of Cape Cod.

The Coast Guard on Thursday morning confirmed that a remote-operated vehicle “has reached the sea floor” and started searching for the missing sub.

I haven’t heard anything if they still hear it now. Even if it was them, they are probably dead by now. I guess it is possible they are hung up on something, but that is a great long shot and the CG know it.

I figure they are waiting on the results of the ROVs going down there to look. Then it is over officially.

Time will tell. The disclaimer that everyone had to sign, it included a clause that they accept the fact that they may die. They all signed them.

If you kill the CEO, the rest will get 4 more hours.

“It wasn’t a scientific expedition that was going to increase our understanding of anything.”

Today, what percentage of time is “science” used to increase our understanding versus to advance an agenda?

“I haven’t heard anything if they still hear it now.”

If the do it will be something similar to “On the Beach”.

They could not open the hatch from the inside. It has 17 bolts that must be unscrewed from the outside.

So they could have made it to the surface and bobbed around while the oxygen ran out.

They should have gone to Disney to get some of their Marvel freakshow heroes to find the sub.

Wouldn't work--their tracking skills are limited to finding the showers and bathrooms of the opposite sex and the caves and tunnels in kiddie pool parks.

If you look at the photos of the Titan, the ballast weights are half circle castings resting on the skids. If there was any way to knock off a few of those weights, the capsule would float to the surface. But alas, if it’s and buts were cherries and nuts, we’d all have a merry Christmas!

I agree. A tragedy if their lives are lost and even more so if it was preventable.

The Rush guy seems upbeat and friendly and inspiring, but that doesn’t mean he was running a tight ship or that he made good decisions particularly when his enterprise was for tourist reasons only.

Reminds me of how so many of today’s young and young-ish liberals in business seem to have such inflated notions of their own capabilities, and have blind faith that “science” can make anything possible. I think it starts with the “progressive” mindset that believes anything new must be better, and that everything that existed before their “brilliance” arrived on the scene is “old and outdated.” These companies also tend to be disproportionately marketing-focused, which I think is a bit of monkey see, monkey do, imitating what they’ve seen from companies like Apple. This effect is clearly visible in how pretty much every “hip, progressive” company today announces products through the same kind of stilted, pretentious, slickly produced events that Apple uses. They’re all imitating a style, but unfortunately in many cases are apparently making engineering and quality a lower priority to the “sizzle.”

Today’s leftist entrepreneurs just seem to think that if they talk about something then that makes it possible. Maybe that comes from the “everyone gets a trophy” generation, and how “awesome” and “special” they were all told they were. This all explains how so many people were easily taken in by a complete fraud like Elizabeth Holmes. Today’s leftists are superficial by nature themselves, so they’re easily fooled by anyone who displays the correct “style”, spouts the right “hip” jargon, and who is hyper-ambitious and charismatic. Unfortunately, these same people are famously allergic to facts, logic, and objective truth. That can be catastrophic for them and their endeavors.

They could not open the hatch from the inside. It has 17 bolts that must be unscrewed from the outside.

Even the Mercury astronauts would not fly a mission under those circumstances. They demanded a hatch on their space capsules that could be opened from the inside. The engineers argued and argued against it but the astronauts got their way because otherwise, they were not doing the missions.

Now obviously you would not open a hatch while in space or under two miles of water, but the ability to open it from the inside becomes crucial when you are bobbing on top of the water and have a decent chance of getting rescued.
