DeSantis Approaches All Time Poll Low Amidst Trump Indictment Bump.
National Pulse ^ | June 13, 2023 | Staff writer

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is polling in the teens again, approaching his all-time low in the Republican primary field, which originally came on May 13th 2023. That was a full month after the first Trump indictment, which suggests the effect of this second case against the former President may hamper DeSantis for weeks to come. A Morning Consult tracker now sees Trump at 59 percent in the Republican primary, a full 40 points ahead of his nearest competitor, DeSantis (19). The rest of the field lags further behind, with Mike Pence on eight, Tim Scott on four, and the rest (Haley, Ramaswamy, Christie, Hutchinson, Bergum) pulling in 10 points, in total, between them. Ron DeSantis has not gained any ground at all since his campaign launch, and is struggling to make his mark on the Republican Primary. A full 25 percent of the Republican likely voter base said they would not be willing to consider DeSantis as their nominee. Just 14 percent said the same for Trump. At the beginning of 2023, DeSantis actually commanded a lead on the question “Who would you vote for, Joe Biden vs. DeSantis or Trump?” He outperformed Trump up until his campaign launch (and a shadow campaign), and has lagged behind since.

While Trump also has the highest voter favorables according to Morning Consult, Chris Christie has the lowest.

He showed himself as an opportunist. He was encouraged to run by the establishment and he didn’t put the Floridians first and have the courage to tell the elites no.

The US is in more dire need of new leadership than Florida.

Trump isn’t a savior. He isn’t our only hope.

He did not pledge to serve out his term he just weaseled out of it.
When I saw this only a few short months ago I almost flipped my lid after sending him donations, campaigning for him…

Can you provide a link to the pledge to which you refer?

Did he or did he not get sworn in as Governor? Pledge/Oath, call it what you want but in the end he told every Florida voter, thanks but no thanks. I sour on people who break an oath.

He should have waited his turn and ran in 2028. He grossly underestimated MAGA loyalty to President Trump.

This mistake has cost him in several ways:

1) It is obviously a huge turn-off to MAGA Trump supporters.
2) It signals a tone-deafness, even non-Trump supporters are concerned.
3) He can’t address the two-tiered Justice problem without helping Trump.
4) His challenge either weakens MAGA or makes an enemy of MAGA - either way, he’s scuttled his 2028 chances.

In my opinion one reason why Trump was indicted was to try to ensure that he is the Republican nominee in 2024. The Rats know that Trump may be the only Republican candidate they can defeat.

This is not about DeSantis. No Republican candidate can have a viable campaign with what is going on with Trump. I support DeSantis, as fellow FR know, I previously supported Trump, prior to that Cruz. Anyway, as the Trump saga is going to go on over the next year and longer, unless the American people and Republicans change their mind about Trump, until this is settled, I am beginning to think that all Republican candidates should simply pause their campaigns or just do the minimum necessary to keep them alive in stand by. Right now no one can compete against Trump so why waste money fighting that?

It is a long time to the convention and the election, we are along for Trump's ride for the moment, like it or not.

Running now signals strength from DeSantis. He’s running on his conservative record and doesn’t back down. The people that won’t support now won’t support him later.

I agree. The problem is what does DeSantis and others do? They can't compete effectively in the current environment. Heck, I support DeSantis but I'm spending my time defending Trump. I don't like that Trump kept government documents, but all presidents do, I don't like his history with porn stars, and payoffs, but it is what it is. The problem is that he is being persecuted because Biden, Clintons, and others --ALL DEMOCRATS-- are given a pass on the same and worse.

This guy chose to become of the opponent of the only outsider, the most love President in modern American history? And now he’s going down in flames?

How predictable was this? ☺

Then they wont elect him president in 2028. Without Trump supporters he cannot be elected.
