'Awkward' Ron DeSantis 'has to be told when to SMILE by advisors,' who are now desperate to get him talking with more voters after gaffes derailed his 2024 launch

Ron DeSantis’s campaign wants him to meet and take more questions from ordinary voters to overcome fears about his temperament, DailyMail.com has learned.

The 44-year-old has so far shied away from Q&A sessions on the road, despite being a standard feature of U.S. politics.

Now, three DeSantis staffers have said they have concerns about the Navy veteran’s presentational style after being overshadowed by his wife Casey at rallies.

A third source said that they even had to coach the Florida governor on ‘when to smile’ when trying to interact with ordinary Americans.

Nice psychological analysis there, Lee -- comparing DeSantis' awkwardness to Trump's smooth delivery.

You could argue even before Trump ran for President, he was a highly rare breed of person who cultivated his public image to the max -- for decades.  Best selling books, constant New York lifestyle exposure, magazine coverage, the Apprentice, etc.  Never mind running and being the chief sales person for a multi-billion dollar business with his last name as his trademark.

Wow.  And a 40 year old rookie from Florida thinks he can compete with that?  It's the height of hubris and political miscalculation.  Even discounting the high odds Trump would easily trounce DeSantis in the primary, maybe DeSantis figured he needed a trial by fire to raise his name-recognition and bolster his campaign skills.

Trouble is: he's exposing how wet behind the ears he really is.  When you look at his political Youtubes, you get a sense he's such a sophomore.

In one Youtube, he wears a Navy flight uniform as if he's some sort of Top Gun.  It's B.S.  DeSantis was a JAG lawyer who advised on the treatment of POWs.  That's it.  He wasn't a Navy Seal hero.  He spent less time in Iraq than Buttigig spent in Afghanistan -- about six months.  Then somebody awarded him a Bronze Star medal.  What did he do to earn it?  His handlers will never let us know.

Sorry Ron, we have a country to take back.  We don't have time to groom a Presidential wannabe who's making Jeb "Please Clap" Bush look like a professional.

I’ve seen the same videos used to say something negative about him prove the opposite of what was claimed.

Yep, are people going to believe their eyes, when it appears desantis wipes his nose, then smears boogers on people and things,

or a desantis supporter, saying that’s people’s eyes are lying to them, and that’s not what desantis did.

or would people believe that both desantis and his supporters would lie to them.

He was part of the U. S. Legal team in Iraq.

When he was returned state side, he immediately became part
of a legal group, not a firm (from my perception).

When I first read of it, it wreaked of an “insider’s club”
to me, and made me think it was very likely he was “connected”
some way, to a group I might not like at all.

It has been my opinion that the Bushes and others have been
kind of on the inside, too cool for us normal folks.

If our deep state wasn’t so anti-American, I’d say who
cares. Sadly, this nation is on it’s last legs.

Not as much face time required for that, plus you’re only trying to impress people from your locale.

That and after watching Trump slaughter 17 repubs in the 2016 primary, it’s got to be a little intimidating going up against him. Probably some nervousness.

Do not get me wrong. I live in Florida, was long active in the state GOP as a low level grinder sort, am pro-Trump as to his running for President again -- and pro-DeSantis if Trump falters. I am trying in this instance to be an objective handicapper of political horse flesh.

Palm Beach and Broward have been corrupt Dem vote generators for decades, but DeSantis's vote count was relatively weak in GOP areas due to an absent DeSantis campaign organization. In 2018, I was getting calls from old GOP friends who wanted to help asking where DeSantis was and who was running his campaign. I had no answer, with even DeSantis's web presence at the time minimal.

As it was, with the benefit of a solid GOP state organization, growing GOP voting base, and ethics issues that began to surface as to Gillum, DeSantis did better in Florida than McCain and Romney did against Obama. That was just enough for DeSantis to win in 2018.

Over the years, I have known candidates like DeSantis who are shy in their campaign effort, governing style, and personality. They may perform well in office but can be a chore to support. Here is one example.

I was once rebuked by a local candidate desperate for campaign cash because I had gotten promises for a large bundle of donations without asking her first but relying instead on the solicitation of her campaign manager to me. Embarrassed, I had to tell the perplexed bundler that the money against an incumbent he and the prospective donors hated was declined. The candidate lost and later apologized to me.

The fundamental problem is that even when drawn to politics or other form of organizational leadership, some personalities are deeply discomfited by the loss of control that such roles necessarily entail. This mismatch between personality and the demands of leadership tends to make them passive, negative types in leadership style.

If that is what the times need, that can be a good thing, with such leaders being innately cautious and calculating, disinclined to adventures and risk. DeSantis seems of that type, but I am not at all sure that is what conservatives and the country need in the 2024 election.

Just as I was for Reagan and his "bold colors, not pale pastels" in 1976 and 1980, I was for Trump in 2016 and 2020 and am for him again in 2024. For me, DeSantis is the spare, not the heir. At least not yet.

If Ron DeSamtis was like anything as he was during the hurricane, Disney, and Transgenderism, I’d be fine with him as President.

However, the recent bouts of weirdness that has been going on with him has been causing him to have setbacks.

I’m not against him at all, but I think it’s fair to say that he needs more seasoning.

I used to wish he had waited for 2028, but now I’m glad he is running. Now we know that he’s a disloyal, sneaky, conniving swamp creature. I hope President Trump keeps talking about how DeSwamptis wouldn’t even be gov, were it not for Trump. Add to this complete weasel move, he jumps in for his 2nd gov term, knowing full well he intends to run. No problem, we’ll just quietly get the law changed so he doesn’t have to give up the gov gig if the prez gig falls through, even though the big money is dirty R machine is backing him all the way. Oh, and let’s also keep our travels hidden from constituents so nobody knows what he’s up to. If ever there was a perfect Bush/Cheney/Ryan/Romney surrogate, here he is.

I live in FL too. Stopped reading your post after you wrote about supporting our Gov if Trump loses. I cant do that because of WHO is behind DeSantis. There is zero chance of my vote ever going to an establishment or establishment backed candidate. Zero. Our Gov needs to change his friendships within his party.

Why should I care about the Daily Mail’s leftist propaganda? Did they run out of pro-NWO/Ukraine propaganda?

He doesn’t have to smile, be a good candidate or any of that. If his Uniparty/Soros kangaroo court allies take Trump out RdS will be handed the compromised nomination on a silver platter. If the corrupt legal gambit fails, he has no more chance than I do winning the nomination. It doesn’t matter a fig what type candidate he is as far as getting the nomination goes. It’s completely out of his hands.

Please stop. He served and made a CHOICE to do so. It may not be what you consider legit, but he voluntarily served. Other candidates including President Trump made a CHOICE not to serve.

Could he have Asperger’s?

It's funny, I was thinking the same. "Is this guy on the spectrum?"

They probably figured running against basement Biden wouldn’t require as many public appearances.

I’ve consistently heard DeSantis is stiff and doesn’t relate to people well....that he lacks the natural charisma a top contender would have.

Your concern is valid. Honestly though, if Trump falters, who would you support?

Jill Casey is going to have to start “cracking the whip” to make him smile. She wants to be 1st Lady really, really badly.

Silly hit piece. I see DeSantis smiling all the time compared to Trump. About the only time you see Trump smile is a photo shoot in front of a bucket of KFC.

And if DeSantis wins the nomination, I’ll vote for him.

Can’t say that about most of the other Keebler elves running.
