Peggy Noonan may be right — and let's hope she is: What she fears about a Trump victory in 2024 is what every true American should be celebrating

On Monday, David Zukerman wrote a good piece about Peggy Noonan and her WSJ editorial concerning former President Donald Trump.  Noonan argues that electing Donald Trump again would destroy the Republican Party.  Peggy may be right, and I hope she is.

Trump's success in 2016 was, in large part, due to the way that he took the mechanisms of the Republican political machine and used them to secure victory. He ran a third-party-style campaign within the structure of the Republican Party. The "party" as a corporate entity was against him, but grassroots Republicans in name and philosophy were all in for candidate Donald Trump. The "party" has never forgiven him for that.

The Republican establishment is not MAGA. Instead, MAGA is a creation of President Trump and his supporters. The Republicans in Washington work in a feigned conflict with Democrats that leads to a power structure that always gets what it wants. Both parties have a few people who try to push the limits for change, but the establishment always wins. Washington insiders build their power, the government gets larger, and the ranks of government employees grow. The country outside Washington pays the bills.

One of President Trump's political failures was that he did not secure the reins of the Republican political entity when he had the chance as the head of the party. He allowed the establishment Republicans to maintain control of the political organization, and the Republican establishment joined with others to harm his presidency and prevent his securing a second term.

President Trump is correctly criticized for the poor record he has with appointing subordinates who ended up working against him and hurting him politically. The Republican establishment was at the center of this failure.

Since January 20, 1989, I have been proud NOT to be a Republican!

I haven't voted for any Democrats, though. I've voted for the lesser of two evils. (Or the less-evil of two lessers.)

So we get a twofer if Trump is elected? I like that.

“Chris Christie recommended Christopher Wray as FBI director.”

Donald Trump appointed Chris Christie, during the 2016 campaign, to be his transition director. The federal government gives both major party candidates several million dollars to create a transition team during the final months of the campaign so they can begin the process of identifying, vetting and securing commitments from individuals to be appointed by a new President for key positions in the administration. If the transition team does its job, the day after the election the shadow administration is identified and ready to take office in January. Nominations requiring Senate approved can be forwarded, and approved, before Inauguration Day in January. The new administration will be ready to govern on day 1.

Christie completely failed in the transition director role. Whether intentional sabotage, laziness, or he just didn’t believe Trump would win, on the day after Election Day there was no administration in waiting. Trump had to scramble finding candidates for cabinet jobs and other positions in the executive branch, after firing Christie. On Election Day he was forced to start work with hundreds of Obama holdovers in place, a situation that persisted for months. In addition, he experienced a number of failures with his original cabinet and high level appointees, some of which he reportedly did not know and only spent an hour interviewing.

If the American media was truly independent and non-partisan, Christie would be getting hammered daily by reporters asking how he is qualified to be president when he utterly failed Trump as transition director. A follow up question might be why he accepted the job as transition director when he obviously loathes Trump.

Christie though has nothing to fear from the media as long as he remains highly critical of Trump. Sadly for Trump, Christie was one of a long list of poor appointments. If Trump had named a truly outstanding professional to the transition job, he would have started his administration without having to use Obama holdovers and would have put people in place fully vetted and committed to his MAGA program.

RE: Chris Christie recommended Christopher Wray as FBI director.

I wonder who recommended Jeff Sessions and Bill Barr to be Attorney General.... I was partial to Rudy Giuliani myself.

The irony in all this was that Trump was probably very comfortable with "The Swamp" when he launched his presidential bid in 2015. If you go back to the start of his campaign and through the Republican primary season in the early months of 2016, I don't think you'll hear any references in his campaign speeches to the Swamp. It was all about "Make America Great Again."

Something changed around August-September of 2016 when his campaign was showing signs of distress. I suspect it was tied to internal polling or focus groups conducted by Kellyanne Conway and her staff. The term "Drain the Swamp" began to really resonate with voters, and Trump's campaign speeches and ads from that point on were built around this theme.

This might have been the most effective, hard-hitting campaign advertisement from 2016. If my memory is accurate, it was released sometime in late September that year:

Trump vs. The Establishment

Chris Christie has only wanted one thing out of his political career. He wants to be the U.S. Attorney General. That's it. In the closing months of the 2016 campaign he may very well have been the top contender for this position in a Trump administration.

His problem was that he completely misplayed his hand. After the release of the infamous "Access Hollywood" tape in early October 2016, Christie was apparently convinced that Trump would never win -- so he immediately began to distance himself from the Trump campaign. The tape was released on a Friday, and the Trump team had an urgent strategy meeting in New York City the following day. Trump's senior campaign advisors huddled in Trump Tower, trying to figure out if they could salvage the campaign. Chris Christie refused to answer phone calls from Trump over that weekend.

His future as a player in the Trump administration was destroyed that weekend.

This guy is the worst political hack you'll find in GOP circles.

I would venture to posit that the “majority of olde bassards” were first elected during The Cold War and are stuck in that P.O.V.

It is time to end the stagnation of the GOP.

Yes Christie went AWOL after the Access Hollywood tape release. And for the rest of the campaign. Until election night in the wee hours when he magically re-appeared on stage during Trump’s victory speech. Christie literally elbowed Trump loyalists and family members out of his way so he could appear on camera close to the new president elect Trump.

Trump trusted the Republican establishment to suggest people to work in the administration, and the establishment used this trust to install people more interested in maintaining the Washington power structure than making the country great again.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
You have very clearly stated EXACTLY what occurred during President Trump’s presidency, and it amazes me how many of his formerly diehard supporters are beating up on him now as if they are completely clueless about what should be perfectly clear to them! Trump, despite being stabbed in the back continuously by RINO traitors, still managed to accomplish a great deal of his agenda to “Make America Great Again”! Praying that God will protect him as he risks his life to win his THIRD consecutive Presidential election.

GOPe hated the Tea Party, too. We’re still here just in another form. True to the US Constitution, Individual Liberties, Economic Freedom and Individual Responsibility. they can’t get rid of us. We do not make good Slaves.
Mike Pence said to avoid ‘Populism’. What does he think ‘populism’ is but the citizens rather than the government running this country?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
All well and truly said. I believe if the average voter understood the basic tenets of Populism our increasingly oppressive government at all levels would soon be brought to heel because aspiring Democrat Party tyrants would be crushed at the ballot box.

“The GOP is already dead. It just doesn’t know it yet.”

No, it’s not dead. It’s just passed out in back seat, in a drunken coma. Exactly where and how the GOP ‘wants’ to be. Unaccountable for ANY thing.

TRUMP SHOULD HAVE FORMED A MEW MAGA PARTY

Yeah I know. A 3rd party helps the democrats blah blah....

Trump had 80 million votes.
The current GOP has only 30 million members

How many of his 80 million would stay loyal to the useless GOP rinos??

The MAGA party would instantly be first. Not second or third. Even some disillusioned democrats would join too.

MAGA is a creation of President Trump and his supporters

That alone is root causes of TDS the left fears it hurts their nationalization plans.

Going to be some troubling times before the end of 2024.
