Bud Light needs to come up with a cogent strategy to win back customers in the next few months, a former executive warned, or its market share losses could become permanent.
Come September, retailers are expected to begin reallocating the limited shelf space by relying on sales data from the preceding months.
In Bud Light’s case, that could mean a diminished presence going forward following the controversy over its brief partnership with a transgender influencer, according to Anson Frericks.
A president of sales and distribution at Budweiser’s U.S. parent Anheuser-Busch until his departure in April 2022, he told the Daily Mail that rivals like Coors Lite and Yuengling could then remain a more prominent fixture in stores following this "reset."
“Those brands will have a better likelihood to succeed long term because they have more shelf space, they have more inventory, they have more back-stock, and they have more availability for consumers," he said.
The warning by Frericks, who cofounded his own asset management firm after more than a decade at the mega-brewer, comes after data suggesting that Mexican beer Modelo Especial could supplant Bud Light this year as America’s favorite frothy brew.

Er, that's not how freedom and free markets work. That's how dictatorships work.
Customers decide if a product should be killed. It's none of your or my business if someone wants to spend their money promoting crap beer.
Abolish the brand. If Budweiser needs to have a light beer in their lineup, create a new name and brand. Bush Zero or something.
Although even I have problems with such a name.
After reading that list I guess I’m glad I had to stop drinking beer at all. (for medical reasons). Lot of brands there I used to like.
Correct. It’s consumers that are not buying piss water.
Thanks, I’ll pass that along. I’m a nondrinker and keeping track of who owns what doesn’t matter, I won’t buy any anyway, but I will help support the boycott by telling people in my circle of influence not to patronize AB.
It’s stunning to see it in this format, isn’t it? There are a lot of beers my husband used to enjoy on that list. I have this list in my notes section of my phone when we go out in order to check.
Over the Memorial Day weekend, we went to a lakeside bar. There were only TWO beers that weren’t AB-Bev, over 20 or so beers to choose from. Those were Miller Lite and Dos Equis.
You are letting your own hatred of Bud cloud your business POV.
BTW, I don't like Bud either. But I'm not emotionally invested in its demise.
Yes, I say the same thing to them…barely flavored water. However, craft beers are not something I like either. They’re usually very heavy, meals in a bottle and they come up with concoctions that I would never thought would be paired.
If these help with the demise of AB, party on.
Encourage those distributors to distribute other companies’ beverages.
Why not mind your damn business and let these distributors make their own decisions?
Of course it's only in the low teens of top selling beers. Then there's the #2 seller, Busch Light, formerly behind Bud Light, also produced by Anheuser Busch Inbev
Not having seen any large reaction to these brands they may be picking up some of the decline in Bud Light, especially Corona. I've seen draft Bush Light replace Bud Light on at least one occasion. They'd be cannibalizing their own brand, but it might be necessary in the long run.
Sorry for jumping on you. I confused your comment with the ridiculous crap being posted by ConservativeInPA.
Correct. And there are other major products and minor products to take AB InBev’s products place.
By the way, my hatred extends to EVERY business that shoves Diversity, Inclusion and Equity (DIE) down people’s throats. My hatred extends to EVERY business that chooses ESG over maximizing shareholder wealth. These are not well run businesses. They need to DIE and their crappy products that serve no useful purpose can die in the process to stand testament to what happens to groomers.
No problem, sir.
I was a faithful Bud Light customer until they slapped me in the face. It was nice because I was able to try 5-6 other brands and switch.
actually, Bush Zero is something I prefer, Busch Zero would be a non-starter for me. I laughed even though it’s a lame attempt at humor.
Sheesh.
Your angry response is like beating your old Ford truck with a baseball bat because Ford Motor has now introduced a rainbow colored F-150.
The truck sitting in your driveway didn't try to shove Woke down your throat.
Get a grip, man.
Every beer, like every civilization, will eventually fade away. Schlitz, Falstaff, Strohs, Schaefer, Black Label, etc.
Even the venerable Budweiser will someday be a memory.
Get that.
I'm in favor of boycotting AB-InBev products including Bud and Bud Light.
