Well, Santa Claus for one -- the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, the Great Pumpkin, etc., but none of those are as damaging as others that we have consistently pounded into our kids’ thinking. Let’s look at some of them:
1) You can become anything you want to be. Theoretically that’s nice. We want our kids to dream, to reach for the stars. We fail, however, because we don’t finish the lesson. We don’t point out that there are some limits. Why should a person like myself (I have a singing range of about three notes and very little control over which of those notes I hit.) spend her life trying to be a singer? Shouldn’t reality appear here somewhere?
We don’t really want our kids to spend their lives banging their heads against impossibilities. That’s why this hairbrained idea of transsexualism has caught on. After all, if you can be whatever you want to be, there’s no reason a young man’s urge to strut in stilettos shouldn’t be entirely fulfilled. Right? One way to test an idea is to stretch it to its extremes and if it still holds up, it may be valid. Obviously, we can toss this one on the ash heap.
2) You should make the world a better place. What’s wrong with that? For one, it’s impossible. We can each make an effort to make our own little patch of society as pleasant and productive as possible, but change the world? That’s a tall order. It’s also way too vague to be useful. What is “better?” By whose standards? How do we define “the world?” How much of the world? For how long? At whose expense? What do we mean by “change?” And, most importantly, who will

Churchill said…”don’t do your best. Do what’s necessary”. I taught my kids that.
do what you love ... the money will follow ... < /bullshit>
I disagree with the first sentence.
“Well, Santa Claus for one”
What do you mean?
Me too. Only those who hate children believe that crap.
I think telling kids that the car’s air condition is destroying the planet should be on the list. Or every white person is a an evil, born racist should be there too or that the Democrats have good intentions.
Also if one believes that people are all basically good then the falsehood that bad people are the result of some reason out side themselves
That Leftists are liberal

“1) You can become anything you want to be.”
When my son was little and we prayed together at his bedtime, I prayed the same thing every evening: that he would have a good night’s sleep, and grow up to be the man God wanted him to be. Both prayers were answered.
“2) You should make the world a better place.”
You make *your part of the* world a better place. He saw my students’ lives improve because of what I taught them. He makes the town he lives in better by engineering the transportation.
“3) You are the product of blind, random mutations.”
Never taught him that. He is God’s creation, fearfully and wonderfully made by God to become the man God planned from before the foundation of the world.
“4) You can measure your success in life by either wealth or title.”
You measure your success by doing God’s will; you may end up with wealth or a title, but you will lose both when you die.
“5) You can attain either easily.”
Never taught him that, and he never saw it from me.
“6) People are basically good.”
He learned in Lutheran school and from his father than people are inherently sinners, who can only come to goodness through the blood of Christ, and continuous repentance, as Luther wrote in his first thesis.
“7) The worst of all the lies — There is no such thing as absolute truth.”
Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.
This is why the world is not yet completely lost, because there are millions like my son throughout the world.
Never forget Harry Callahan’s (AKA Clint Eastwood) words of wisdom: “A man’s gotta know his limitations.”
Reminds me of the thousands of “Marine Science’ majors and the very few ‘Marine Science’ jobs.
Yeah, do what you love but be real.
First, get a job where you can support yourself and your family. Know it takes a long time to work to the top and lots of folks are competing for the same spots. Traditional values are ‘traditional’ because they work...

Yep, telling kids theres good in everyone is what gets you robbed in chicago or NYC. go ahead and talk to the psycho talking to the garbage can.
Like I told my kids, if they want to, they can believe there is no Santa, but if that is what they believe, then he will not show up with all those presents. To this day, and now that they are all grown up with kids of their own, if you ask them if there is a Santa Claus, they will tell you in no uncertain terms, that there is a Santa Claus.
Be nice to everyone you meet, but also have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
