DeSantis Bashes Reporter in New Hampshire: ‘Are You Blind?’
Breitbart ^ | 06/01/2023 | HANNAH BLEAU

A reporter and 2024 presidential hopeful Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) shared a tense exchange during the Florida governor’s first campaign event in New Hampshire on Thursday after the reporter asked him why he did not take questions from voters during the event.

“Why not take any questions from voters, though?” the reporter, identified as the Associated Press’s Steve Peoples, asked as DeSantis mingled with the crowd, posing for pictures with the event’s attendees.

“Governor, how come you’re not taking questions from voters?” the reporter asked again, prompting a response from DeSantis, who explained that he was now very clearly talking to voters who were approaching him.

Screw all of this fake “Team Desantis vs Team Trump” crap on here. You people need to go back to watching whatever pointless sports teams you usually get riled up for.

Sure seems like it. Trump is the happy warrior, DeSantis is the sniveling, testy elitist. Not a good look.

Yeah, right. If you think these discussions are as pointless as an Eagles/Cowboys game, why are you here?

I made the mistake of opening the thread expecting to see a bunch of conservatives having a discussion. Instead, I see a bunch of 1st grade playground bickering no doubt egged on by at least a couple of professional provocateurs.

The addition of professional sports to the everyday lives of Americans was one of the most insidious methods of subversion because now most people approach any subject like pro sports fandom: “I arbitrarily chose a sportsball team to call ‘mine’ and now I defend that team and spit on all others for no logical reason other than to scratch my tribal itch like a damn caveman.”

And he doesn’t respond to his Constituents letters. I wrote to him about the Jim Hoft May 11th Gateway Pundit article asking if he planned to denounce the allegations made by one of his Pacs. Crickets.

No, this is a Free Republic member that has been on this site for as long as I can remember (pre 2014). And in good standing.

Gov DeSantiss is my gov and has been awesome especially after Ian. I do like how he handles his press conferences. I didn’t see the exchange regarding this issue, but since this early I’ve grown reservations about certain aspects of his character.

Jim Hoft of the Gateway Pundit had an especially damning article May 11th that raised serious allegations about one of his pacs. He has never denounced the article and has yet to respond to my letter regarding it. I’m also upset that he has accepted the support of GOP establishment like the Bush family , Paul Ryan etc.,

Full disclosure, I’m a a Trump supporter and America First voter. And yes, there seems to be an extensive amount of insults, name calling, fight picking just to score points for ones side. I myself have been called a Trump cultist and nearly had to report one poster to moderators for harassment. Sad isn’t it.

Yes, I did see it. I thought a straightforward answer to a simple question would have been more effective and reflect better on DeSantis than ‘Are you Blind? Are you Blind?’ If he’s trying to be Trump, it isn’t working.

The thing about DeSantis is that there is often a sort of whiny, sarcastic, snide edge to him; and I don’t trust him to be as much about the US as he is about himself. I know a lot of people here respect him, but I’m afraid they would wind up disappointed. Being President is a lot bigger than being the Governor of Florida, and what I’ve seen has convinced me that while he may be good in some ways, he will fold and compromise on important issues if it serves his ego and personal goals – or threatens the ‘8 years’ he already claims to need before he’s even attained a nomination.

With Trump, we always knew he wasn’t a politician; and he didn’t need money or power – he had all of that. And when he said something outrageous, it was almost always done in a way that was practically a self-aware caricature of himself, even while clearly expressing strong convictions. Those of us who watched him carefully and supported him knew that it was just his ‘shtick’, but that at heart he was extremely straightforward. We never had to worry what Trump was really thinking.

I simply find that compelling, because I’m tired of slick, lying politicians who promise us everything and then faint when their balls get squeezed a little.

Often, one decides on what is perceived of character, no what people say or even what they do in some situations but probably won’t follow through with in others; and even when the favored character contains flaws.

I just haven’t been convinced of DeSantis’ real character, and a man’s character is the most important thing to me.

I would like more info, too. My opinion on reporters in general is only higher than my opinion of moldy broccoli.

Fair enough. But if you wade through these discussions you’ll find that many (not all) of the posters have reasons for why they support one candidate over another. In some instances the reasons are disingenuous and nothing more than an excuse to mask a personal like or dislike for one of the candidates. But in many, maybe even most cases, the strong feelings are based on some degree of reasoned reflection.

The issues matter, so emotions can run high, and articulating the reasons you support one candidate over another is not always easy. And often we’ve had these same discussions with one another on other threads, so there’s the personal frustration that comes from repeatedly clashing with certain individuals and seemingly making little headway.

I'm just going to through this out there as my head-cold ridden body with a dose of Vodka on board has taken over:

Future prediction

1.) Trump Vs. Biden = Biden Voters + illegals and fraudulent votes - DeSantis & Never Trumpers sitting this one out = Biden Win

2.) DeSantis Vs Biden = Biden Voters + illegals and fraudulent votes - Trump Supporters who sit this one out = Biden win

Final result - Biden victory + 4 years of Freepers pointing the fingers at each other.

Good times ahead.

I understand where you are coming from, but disagree with your take as to the character of the man. He has been forthright, no question about that. But is that always a positive good? Proverbs would be the best measuring tool we could use outside our own fallible instincts.

2:6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
and understanding will guard you.

And simply based on how they are conducting their campaigns, one hurling silly ad-hominems and another pledging not to do so is but one indication that one of these candidates possess discretion.

I believe there'd be much more in Proverbs which could be used to judge character.

I haven't even mentioned the past histories of the two and fidelity in family affairs. There are distinctions there which could be explored.

You have no idea what DeSantis’ private life is like.

And men can divorce, and still be men of good character.

Thanks for the conversation.

Well, I'm Trump all the way for 2024. Not because I think he is a perfect angel on earth, but because he is the focal point of the war between Americans and whatever we want to call the satanic ideology that has taken over the US government and large parts of society. The 2020 election was stolen, and, as far as I'm concerned, it's Trump back in the White House or war.

That said, I like what I've seen from Desantis in Florida. He seems to have done a really good job there. If we didn't have Trump as the standard-bearer, he would probably be the only other one worth looking at. Unfortunately, these days (and perhaps throughout human history) every single person who is in or aspires to politics is subject to temptation and influence by those same satanic communists/globalists/deep staters, and Desantis is no exception. He may (or may not) have escaped that influence as governor, but he won't escape it as a presidential candidate, and, at first glance, he may be succumbing to their promises right now, perhaps all while telling himself that he'll do the right thing once in office.

"I just haven’t been convinced of DeSantis’ real character, and a man’s character is the most important thing to me."

I still don't really know what Trump believes in regard to religion or abortion. De Santis does seem a bit stiff and sometimes comes across as insincere, but I can't pretend that President Trump doesn't play the part of conservative because it's his job. I don't think he is comfortable with the religious aspect of the conservative movement, but I think he knows how important it is both as a politician and a leader.

What exactly is the ‘religious aspect’ of the conservative movement? I thought it was a movement of political philosophy, and didn’t know that it was a religious movement.

I’m confident that Trump believes in a ‘supreme being’, and ‘higher power’. But the conservative movement includes people who follow many different religions - and includes atheists, as well. Those who comprise conservatism possess many different viewpoints, and there are also many gradations among us in terms of how we consider various issues.

Even an atheist can believe in religious freedom and the right of people to worship as they please.

Of course one can, and many do. But that doesn’t mean that Conservatism itself is somehow a ‘religious movement’.

Neither. There are folks here who worship Trump and will tolerate no criticism of their idol. They are so far gone they do not even see the dissonance of their position
