Johns Hopkins Medicine employees have been issued a new guidebook with a list of 50 different pronouns — including “aerself” and “faerself” — that staff can use after a new ID badge policy was implemented, according to a report.
Other pronouns listed in the guide include xe, ve, per and ae, as well as directions on how to use the pronouns in everyday sentences, such as “I gave faer the key,” Fox News reported.
The guide also details how employees can correctly use titles: “Mr.” for men, “Miss” for women, or “Mx.” for “nonbinary or gender diverse people.”
In March 2022, Johns Hopkins Medicine updated its ID badge policy to allow staffers to choose the name displayed on their badges as it matches their gender identity, John’s Hopkin’s program director for LGBTQ+ Equity and Education Paula Neira said on a podcast earlier this year.
“Maryland law has changed, which allows that to happen,” she said on the podcast Fundamentals for LGBTQ+ Cultural Awareness, which was published by Johns Hopkins Medicine’s Learning Technology & Innovation.
The hospital system also allows patients to use their chosen names on wristbands.

I’d pick some unpronounceable one off the list and the first time someone in management messed up and called me the wrong pronoun in person or in correspondence I’d be a multi-millionare.
Well, not me, somebody who looks like me with a weird pronoun in front of my name.
Does anyone expect this to encourage public confidence in medicine as practiced at Johns Hopkins?
How about “btfsplk”, after the Li’l Abner character, or “phbbbbbbbt”, the latter being pronounced as a nice juicy Bronx cheer?
Pure idiocy. I’d just stop using pronouns entirely, and just repeat the person’s name instead.
Absolute insanity.
Insulting my intelligence has just been elevated to assault and battery.
Please, please, say it isn’t so.
Many of the finest pioneers in the history of modern medical practice taught at Johns Hopkins.
The Covid era proven to some of us that our physicians are poor thinkers and lemmings.
Now this idiocy with names.
Patient, you’re on your own. Cure yourself.
If I am working there I am coming up with the dumbest and most outrageous “pronoun” I can think of and force everyone to bow.
I recognize the validity of only three pronouns:
He
She
It
My pronoun will be King 🤴
I want to see how stupid this can get
Just use proper nouns - aka, first and last names.
Do people still use Mr./Mrs.?
I still say Sir and Ma'am every day.
When I grew up in the 1950s, it was mandatory to call the parents of your friends Mr. and Mrs.
Pronoun demanders should have them tattooed on their face as a service to strangers.
When it comes to using proper pronouns I only use two which are I and you as in “what makes you think I want to talk to you?”
I will address you by your name, otherwise, I speak English.
