The head of the World Health Organization warned that the world must prepare for the next pandemic, which could be “even deadlier” than the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a meeting of the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday, director-general Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus sounded an alarm that the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over.

“The threat of another variant emerging that causes new surges of disease and death remains,” Dr. Tedros said. “And the threat of another pathogen emerging with even deadlier potential remains.” “When the next pandemic comes knocking — and it will — we must be ready to answer decisively, collectively and equitably,” he added.

Sounds planned doesn’t it? Of course, one of these black swan worldwide viruses comes around every 100 years or so, give or take.

What makes it worse now is not necessarily that it may be “planned” by a James Bond Villain type, but that there are many labs around the world actively developing these things and that activity just increases the odds of one of them getting out. Planned, deliberate (stolen and weaponized) or just accidental.

At the same time, the WHO has to justify their existence. Fear helps fundraising. I wish they would focus on things like delivering food and medicine to the impoverished instead of hobnobbing with politicians and diplomats at cocktail parties.
