A top GOP donor who previously backed Donald Trump has announced that he will be supporting Ron DeSantis in the 2024 Election.
Hal Lambert, founder and CEO of Texas-based Point Bridge Capital, said he wants to "do a lot to help DeSantis win" amid strong speculation the Florida governor will confirm his presidential campaign in the coming days.
Lambert, who set up an exchange-traded fund named after the former president's Make America Great Again 2016 campaign slogan, MAGA ETF, and previously served on Trump's inaugural committee in 2016, told the New York Post that he decided to back DeSantis after meeting with him and wife in Florida three weeks ago.
Lambert said he was also put off by Trump's recent CNN town hall, where the former president continued to falsely claim the 2020 Election was "rigged."
"What voters who didn't vote for Trump in 2020 are going to vote for him this time based on his performance? I don't think anyone will," Lambert told The Post. "We can't talk about things from four years ago that can't be changed.
"Trump is going to have a difficult time winning the general election. The election won't be about Joe Biden's bad record. It will be a referendum on Trump instead."
It is reported that DeSantis will file paperwork declaring his presidential candidacy on May 25 to coincide with a donor meeting in Miami, before a formal announcement a few days later.

FACT: Trump lost a previously loyal megadonor to DeSantis.
FACT: The megadonor said it is because Trump is trapped in 2020.

Trump was outstanding on CNN. The election was rigged, and Hal Lambert knows both of these things. 2024 will also be rigged against Trump or DeSantis or any other Republican option.
If FR had a dollar donated for each time the media predicted the end of support for Donald Trump, we wouldn’t need the fundraisers.
Look in the mirror for an answer. Maybe some light will accidentally sink into that cement.

Trump is not convincing anyone new that the election was stolen. He offers no proof and sounds like he is whining.
Those who agree that the election was not fair are already on Trump's side.
Those who are suffering from Biden's policies want someone to address that, not rehash the 2020 election without any evidence.
Get it through your thick skull that talking about 2020 will not win Trump any votes from those he lost in 2020.
If Trump shuts up and focuses on policy, he can win. Once in office, he can then do whatever he thinks a POTUS can do to change state election laws.
Until then, people want someone with solutions.

So when “people like this” backed Trump it was fine, but now that the same donor backs DeSantis it’s bad and a clear indication that DeSantis is secretly GOPe. Makes sense—not.
What about addressing the man’s point, which is valid? Voters already know if they like Trump or not therefore he has very little room to gain new voters, which does not bode well for winning the general.

I don’t like DeSantis and I don’t like that the establishment has lined up behind him. At this point I don’t think he’s got what it takes to close the deal and beat Joe. He’s trying to act like a more disciplined Trump but it feels phony.
A self disciplined candidate Trump would’ve won easily. Instead he let the attacks and persecution get to his ego and throw him off his game. Disastrous.

I agree with you that the main focus must be on Biden, and on his destructive policies.
But I think there is value in talking about possible (probable?) election fraud in 2020. True, no court is going to do anything about it. But maybe, just maybe, the talk will make the Dem’s think twice about committing open fraud in 2024.
