Former President Donald Trump launched a hail of attacks directed at Gov. Ron DeSantis Friday morning as rumors continue to swirl regarding an impending DeSantis presidential run.

Trump criticized the Florida governor over his state’s “very average” handling of the coronavirus pandemic and pointed to former Democrat New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s handling of the situation.

“How about the fact that he had the third most deaths of any State, as Governor, on the China Virus. Even Cuomo did better,” Trump said on TRUTH Social.

Cuomo reportedly oversaw his state’s health agency “misle[a]d the public” on nursing home deaths.

I'm about to say I'm going to sit this election out. It's getting boring on both sides. Donald Trump, stop the name calling and stupid talking. Talk about the crap Biden is doing.

Ron DeSantis, don't get into the race. You are a great governor, but I think you'll lose against Trump.

So you agree with Trump that Cuomo did better than DeSantis?

things I recall from 2020 is early on there was huge push for spreading misinformation and lies about covid, and it’s severity and while that was going on some states were pressured to put sick in elder and Veteran and care facilities which escalated spread and deaths. many places were putting people on ventilators escalation deaths. many places would not allow helpful Rx and just letting people have minimal or wrong care. many places/states implemented lockdowns and drastic restrictions on the healthy and the ill.

DeSantis handled some things well, some things not.

Trump as numerous times in the past, may have some info he is baseing his comment on.

Many posting here like to see DeSantis with rosy glasses while not looking at the whole picture, and just rush to say Trump is over the top, etc.

DeSantis is supported by all those who bashed Trump. If you enjoy Bushes, Romeny, etc then DeSantis is your guy. If you dislike Bushes Romney type leaders then there is absolutely NO good reason to even consider supporting DeSantis.

Bush did some good things but had sold his soul to evil for the ? fame? power ? money? who knows.

My point is DeSantis is very much following suite and being formed int he same mold, do some good but behind the scenes connected to evil. So why support or even want desantis getting any where near a higher office, when he is clearly letting these Republican leaders who backstabbed us US citizens be his connections and pals, influencers?

Trump had dems as pals but it seems he did that largely for business reasons.

desantis isn’t a business man, he is government employee for his whole career.

no more govt for life, in it for themself and self gain, sold their soul candidates.

Poor old Trump. He has to defend Disney, abortion, Bud Lite, and now Cuomo?

And only Trumpers are willing to allow Biden another 4 years rather than accept DeSantis.

I did nothing but COVID (professionally) from March 2020 until late 2022.

This is not a comment about COVID rules or COVID therapies.

It’s a comment about Trump and DeSantis.

COVID attracted a lot of psychos to work out their stuff in public. Left-wing psychos were BESIDES THEMSELVES about DeSantis’s approach to COVID. They attacked him mercilessly when the 2020 summer surge began in Florida.

I have presentation slides comparing Florida in July to Vermont in November, to make the point that it was people gathering indoors (the South when it’s hot, the North when it’s cold) rather than any policy or rule set that drove COVID cases in 2020-mid 2021. The Provincetown cluster in July 2021 made the point about indoors even more strikingly.

Anyway, I’m opposed to DeSantis for a lot of reasons, but he did a very respectable job as a leader during COVID when most other political leaders behaved disgracefully.

Credit where credit is due - and Trump should be ashamed of himself.

The real problem with this comment, is that early on people probably did die OF covid.

Along the way, death certificates were coded as such if people died WITH covid. I wouldn’t be surprised if George Floyd was a covid death stat since he had covid when he died.

NY spiked with deaths early in 2020. Florida racked up Death stats later.

Per the CDC website (yes I know....work with me), in 2020 NY had the second highest death rate per capita. Florida was 40th. In 2021, Florida had the 18th highest death rate. NY was 30th.

All that said, this is such a lame comment.

You need to stop posting nonsense. Desantis ordered the lockdown after almost 2/3 of the rest of the states had done so, and only after talking to Trump about it, and only after Trump had issued a second 30-day social distancing order for the federal government. In other words, Desantis was reluctantly following Trump’s lead on lockdowns. Desantis also lifted the restrictions sooner than other states, and never implemented a mask mandate.

Oh FFS. Did Trump really say this?

I don’t trust the media to report truthfully. But if Trump really did say this and I see video proof of it....that’s it for me.

Anyone that lies this handily and freely about someone I believe might be able to save us from the radical left’s assault on this nation....is someone that I will never trust or support. I don’t give a damn about “primary politics”.
He’s stumping and playing for the enemy team, IOW, by attacking DeSantis in this manner.

If Trump really said this latest BS, it’s clear to me that he is not someone we should rely on for anything but “more of the same” swamp behavior.

Even Newsweek has it right:

Despite the predictions of doom about DeSantis’ decisions, the impact of the pandemic on Florida has been relatively light, especially when one considers the heavy concentration of elderly retirees in the state. As of this writing, only 2,382 people have died in Florida, which stands in contrast to the man-made disaster in New York.

DeSantis will almost certainly lose to Trump in the primaries. But that is, for me, not the key question. The key question is which one has a better chance of winning the 2024 general election? Because it’s not 1960 anymore. The Dem nominee, whoever he/she is, would certainly be a total disaster for the country.

So who’s got that better chance? The more unforced errors Trump makes, the more I’m thinking it’s DeSantis.

Trump asked Congress for approximately a gajillion dollars for PPP and other programs so that states could afford to shut down. There is not a single state in the union that could have afforded to do so otherwise. Trump owns the lockdowns because he called for them and funded them.

Trump openly criticized governors (Kemp for one) who opened his state sooner than Trump thought he should.

If you have to re-write history to make your guy look better it’s because he screwed up in the first place.

Amen. I was always in the “let the healthy work and keep the lights while the ill stay home and recover” camp. I agree: we knew by May what it was all about and still had a strong chance for a quick economic recovery. Easter (April) would have been better for getting back to work as we knew by then that “ten days to flatten the curve” was bunk.

“His handling of the virus was a complete clown show. There are so many things he could have done better. He surrounded himself by a bunch of idiots.”

And...isn’t he still pushing and taking credit for the jab....even to this day? Talk about tone deaf. More like facts deaf. Trump can’t seem to accept culpability for anything....even negative things that he DID do.

Honestly, his attacks on DeSantis have been telling (for me). But this one....this blatant lie....is the last straw.

That “government employee” is Lieutenant Commander Ron DeSantis, USN to you, winner of the bronze star for service in Iraq. Stop denigrating his military service.
