Two Ukrainian pilots proved they can master the American-made F-16 fighter jets in just four months — more than four times faster than the Pentagon previously predicted — in a performance that is likely to ratchet up the growing pressure on the Biden Administration to send the lightweight warplanes to Ukraine.
Yahoo News on Thursday obtained and published an internal US Air Force assessment that detailed the F-16 training two Ukrainian pilots underwent at Morris Air National Guard Base in Tucson, Arizona, in late February and early March. Over the course of eleven and a half total hours in nine separate simulations, the Ukrainian airmen outperformed US expectations in their quick ability to learn the ins and outs of the aircraft, according to the document.
The Department of Defense did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Four experienced US air force instructors assessed the Ukrainian pilots and determined the pilots could perform several "relatively technical" maneuvers, including landing after losing an engine and withstanding mock attacks, Yahoo News reported, citing the assessment.

Ask pretty much any F-16 pilot who transitioned from another fighter and they will tell you they were behind the aircraft for at least the first 100 hrs in the plane and they did not become truly proficient until 3-400 hrs.

I wouldn’t worry much as it seems that the Russians will simply blast them out of the sky, given what happened with the Patriots. The sad thing about this debacle is that we lose any claim to having the strongest military in the world, thanks to the stupidity of trying to fight Russia without even preparing for it.

Russia’s S-500 air defense system will make short work of those F16’s. Ukraine lack the manpower to defeat Russia and we are just throwing good money after bad supporting these idiots.

It’s not just an airplane, it’s a platform, a weapon system that carries many different missiles and yes of course guns too.
It takes a lot of simulator time and actual practice to master the various onboard weapons. Most of the time is spent becoming familiar with those. This training is ESSENTIAL to survival.
Not to mention the American and allied pilots normally go through a much longer training program that encompasses air refueling, formation (including in the weather), and tactics — lots of training in tactics.
And it’s a MUCH less effective weapons system without the supporting AWACs, tankers, and satellite support.
It’s much too expensive a weapons system to just give to some third-world yahoos after a few orientation rides.
