Ron DeSantis is on the verge of announcing his presidential bid Expect to see paperwork filed in the next 15 days.

The clock is about to begin ticking down on Ron DeSantis’ presidential announcement.

On Monday, the Florida governor’s political operation is set to move into its new base of operations, which will trigger disclosure requirements with federal officials.

The DeSantis political operation is currently housed in downtown Tallahassee, but staffers are set to make a short move to a new downtown location that will serve as a more official campaign home, according to a source familiar with the campaign’s plans, as well as another person knowledgeable about the move.

That move will require the not-yet-filed campaign to spend more than $5,000 and, under Federal Election Commission guidelines, when someone running for federal office spends more than $5,000, they are required to register, file financial reports and designate a principal campaign committee.

Functionally, the office move will require DeSantis to file paperwork with federal election officials within 15 days, thus acknowledging publicly for the first time that he is running for president.

The DeSantis team has been housed at the Florida GOP building since the re-elect,” said a veteran Republican consultant. “They are gearing up to move out soon. In moving, they would be spending funds and [it] most likely would force them to file a ‘Form 1‘ with the FEC, which would force an announcement sooner rather than later.”

“This move kicks off the countdown,” according to a source close to DeSantis’ political operation. “Hard to see how you turn back after that.”

A DeSantis spokesperson declined to comment.

The move and the forthcoming filing represent the most concrete steps of what has long been a behind-the-scenes effort to slowly build up a DeSantis political operation that, in his first years in office, has been notoriously small.

A DeSantis-aligned super PAC called Never Back Down has raised tens of millions of dollars and served as the attack dog against former President Trump, whose regular swipes against DeSantis have so far largely been ignored by the governor. The organization is also airing pro-DeSantis TV ads and building out staff in key states across the country to have presidential-level infrastructure in place for a formal launch. DeSantis advisers told NBC News in April that they were plotting out a long-haul delegate (stealing) strategy that would involve a lengthy battle with Trump.

I think he must think the courts will take Trump off the board.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is just a lot of blowing smoke.

Before Donald Trump formally announced his presidential bid for 2016, polls were already showing that he would become the immediate frontrunner as soon as he entered the race.

DeSantis is limping along here with almost no enthusiasm outside the GOP establishment dopes who are almost universally despised by grassroots Republican voters.

I kind of liked DeSantis when he first came on the scene.

I’ve become very reserved about him.

(What was the point of that business about keeping his travel records sealed?)

Big mistake. DeSantis is still young (he'll be 45 next year). If he waited until 2028 he'd still only be 49. From a game theory perspective, there is no downside and only upside to waiting. If either Biden or Trump is re-elected in 2024 in both cases neither will be eligible to run in 2028 and the field will be wide open. If he played his cards right with unequivocal Trump support now he might even be selected to be Trump's running mate in 2024.

By contrast, if he runs in 2024 and loses, he's damaged goods and vulnerable to charges of "he couldn't even beat Joe Biden" if he tries again in 2028.

The only reason to run in 2024 would be to divide the Republican vote to ensure an easier path for Biden to snooze his way to victory, which would call into question whether he really is his own man or is playing the traditional role of "controlled opposition".

Do it!

I want Jeb2.0/desantis to run, and completely destroy his future political career, if his deceitfulness and lying hasn't killed it, already.

This announcement is about as significant and important as DeSantis announcing that he’s off to take his morning dump.

POI, i have voted for DeSantis when living in Florida. But he’s becoming a shill for other players. And he is blind to it.

If he were smart he would go up against Rubio. Trying to beat Trump is a fools errand.

Worst case scenario, DeSantis gets a presidential primary under his belt, lessons learned and contacts made. Even if he's a 2nd place longshot for the nomination, he'll be set up pretty good for 2028.

Best case scenario, he wins the nomination and the White House and we actually have a capable, conservative president.

If he loses the nomination, so what? Are we just going to keep rolling out Trump, "Weekend at Bernie's" style until 2036?

At some point, we'll need a successor.
