One man died, and two others were hospitalized after a shooting at a Detroit gas station over a $4 purchase being declined, officials said.
Gregory Kelly, 37, of Detroit, was fatally shot around 3 a.m. Saturday, May 6, at a gas station in the 12800 block of West McNichols, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release. Samuel Anthony McCray, 27, of Detroit, is charged with first-degree murder and other crimes related to the incident.
A 60-year-old man and 37-year-old man were also injured in the shooting, the release said.
It is alleged that, shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday, the defendant attempted to make a purchase inside the gas station. When the purchase of under $4 was declined, he allegedly attempted to leave without paying. The store clerk then locked the store with the defendant and victims inside.
The defendant then allegedly began to argue with the clerk. He allegedly produced and fired a handgun, fatally wounding Kelly and non-fatally wounding the other two victims. After the shooting, the clerk unlocked the door, and the suspect fled the scene.
Detroit police officers were dispatched to the reported shooting at 3:09 a.m. Upon arrival, they found the victims inside the store suffering from gunshot wounds. Medics pronounced Kelly dead at the scene. The other two victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
An investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to McCray’s arrest Sunday. This incident remains under investigation.
McCray was arraigned Wednesday in 36th District Court on charges of first-degree murder, two counts of assault with intent to murder, and three counts each of felony firearm and felon in possession of a firearm. He was denied bond and remanded to jail.
He’s due back in court on Tuesday, May 23, before Judge Kenneth King.
Locking the guy inside the store with people seems like a bad choice.
The LOVE of money is the root of all evil.

If I read this right, it seems the perp shot everyone but the clerk he was actually arguing with.
That’s one bad looking nut sack right there. I wonder if the boy will get his 5 million if he’s in jail.
The clerks in Detroit gas stations are almost always inside a bullet-proof enclosure. Clerk was in no danger but he set up the other patrons to be killed. Bad, bad decision.

Going out at 3AM in Detroit is a bad choice!
Also, clerk in Detroit gas stations are almost always middle easterners. Even out as far as Lansing.
Why didn’t he just call 911 like a normal person?
Can’t really call it a guess. Certain crimes are the almost exclusive activity of one particular group with most of the rest of the minority being Hispanoids.
Frankly I don’t care what happens to those folks who choose to live their life this way. They’re bad people taking up space.
Still living in or even visiting Detroit is a bad choice.
Just another one of Obama’s sons!
Actually, beint out after 3:00, is bad ANYWHERE!
