Americans fault news media for dividing nation: AP-NORC poll

When it comes to the news media and the impact it’s having on democracy and political polarization in the United States, Americans are likelier to say it’s doing more harm than good.

Nearly three-quarters of U.S. adults say the news media is increasing political polarization in this country, and just under half say they have little to no trust in the media’s ability to report the news fairly and accurately, according to a new survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights.

The poll, released before World Press Freedom Day on Wednesday, shows Americans have significant concerns about misinformation — and the role played by the media itself along with politicians and social media companies in spreading it — but that many are also concerned about growing threats to journalists’ safety.

“The news riles people up,” said 53-year-old Barbara Jordan, a Democrat from Hutchinson, Kansas. Jordan said she now does her own online research instead of going by what she sees on the TV news. “You’re better off Googling something and learning about it. I trust the internet more than I do the TV.”

That breakdown in trust may prompt many Americans to reject the mainstream news media, often in favor of social media and unreliable websites that spread misleading claims and that can become partisan echo chambers, leading to further polarization.

And that last sentence:

That breakdown in trust may prompt many Americans to reject the mainstream news media, often in favor of social media and unreliable websites that spread misleading claims and that can become partisan echo chambers, leading to further polarization.

Maybe it's the mainstream news media that spreads misleading claims and are partisan echo chambers, leading to further polarization.

Talk about unreliable, Associate Press scores right up there!

“That breakdown in trust may prompt many Americans to reject the mainstream news media, often in favor of social media and unreliable websites that spread misleading claims and that can become partisan echo chambers, leading to further polarization.”

So, the mainstream media, being eternal fonts of truth, simply have an image problem. Maybe hiring A-list movie stars as anchors and top-selling novelists as news writers would do the trick.

“Talk about unreliable, Associate Press scores right up there! “

...and the article last sentence proves it.

The Democrat party divides the nation.

Which is saying exactly the same thing.

The media works for the DNC. Just as Der Stuermer worked for Hitler.

This poll means they are doing their jobs well. The MSM and the Dems love these results. These are shameless, sociopathic Leftists.

Why the surprise?

They and their political apparatchiks preach hate and fear 24 hours a day.

The sad thing is that is what they want and intend.

Now, one of their latest ‘kicks’ is reporting on deaths because someone opened the wrong door or was in the wrong driveway or some similar location mistake. Such events, of course, give them fodder for their anti-gun rants.

So, is the media/political mechanism a cult or a religion?

No doubt in my mind that's right. See Tagline.

No.
It is all just other people’s opinions.
I “trust” none of it.

News Media are mostly propaganda entities masking as news networks.

back in pre internet days I read four or five print news papers daily to get the facts because they all slanted. I thought it was bad digging down for truth, but it’s worse now with all the resources we have.

And googling? What if Google’s algorithms to get certain stories to the top of the search results is, shall we say, inherently biased to the Left and Deep State narrative?

Say the same for Bing, and even Duck Duck Go was recently caught giving altered search results.

Yes, “back in the day”...

If you had a question, the “facts”, the “truth”,
(or at least the “agreed upon” facts and truth)
could be found in Encyclopaedia Britannica, or Webster’s Dictionary.
And whatever they said was considered factual ... end of story.

Nowadays, for every question asked, there are 20 different answers.
There are no “agreed upon” facts or truths about anything.
