A group of New York Democrats announced support for federal legislation aimed at regulating lithium-ion battery safety standards after a spate of fires caused by the batteries malfunctioning or overheating.

Lithium-ion batteries, found in many popular consumer products like e-scooters and smartphones, have been under scrutiny amid increasing reports of explosive fires triggered by the batteries, which use flammable materials.

Fire officials and others gather outside of a Bronx supermarket the day after a 5-alarm fire tore through a market that fire officials are blaming on a faulty lithium-ion battery Lithium-ion battery fires are happening more often. Here's how to prevent them Support in New York for more safeguards comes after at least seven people were injured when a lithium-ion battery-powered scooter exploded in the Bronx early last month. The incident followed a Manhattan apartment building fire in November that injured at least 38 people and was blamed on a lithium-ion battery connected to a micromobility device.

If they prohibit batteries from being taken inside, they might as well totally prohibit batteries (which is fine by me, by the way).

Much more necessary and urgent than the banning of natural gas appliances.

Just turn off the electricity , and problem solved,...

...since the majority of LiIon and LiPo battery fires occur during charging.

Many months ago several New York buildings banned e-bikes and scooters from their buildings due to the fires. European ferries have banned EV autos from their ferry services due to the fires. I suggest the ferries tow a large, flat barge where the EVs can park. If an EV battery fire starts, just cut the tow line and the fire will not endanger the entire ferry.

Gee... The same thing that is in EV’s.

If Republicans had invented the lithium battery, Democrats now would be running around passing legislation to prohibit them.

“...Here’s how to prevent them...”

Eschew using Li. It’s VERY reactive.

I can’t wait for one of NYs grid scale batteries they’re pushing for to touch off. Should be quite the weenie roast.

Just wait until all those spiffy new electric USPS trucks start conflagrating with all of your mail in them. That’ll be fun.

Maine is going to get an EV ferry. Riding it could be a blast.

Anyone watching 60 minutes right? They are doing a segment on machines that suck CO2 out of the air and buries it deep in the earth as if CO2 is radioactive plutonium. Freakin insanity
